To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARVEY M. Owens, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leominster, in the county of Vorcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Folding Garment-Hanger, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a folding garment hanger formed largely of sheet material and particularly adapted to be used for advertising purposes.

It is one of the objects of my invention to provide a garment hanger of this type so designed that it may be folded flat and to small dimensions when not in use.

A further object is to simplify the construction and to reduce the cost of manu facture of such an article so that it may be commercially available for the purposes indicated.

The features of the invention relate to certain combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and more par ticularly pointed out in the appended claims, possessing advantages in manufacture and use which will be apparent to those skilled in the art.

A preferred form of my invention is shown in the drawings in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a folding garment hanger: Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same: Fig. 3 is adetail plan View of the same when partially folded: Fig. 4 shows the device when it is completely folded or in closed condition; and Fig. 5 shows a modified form of the invention.

In this embodiment of my invention the garment hanger comprises essentially a body portion 10, a connecting member 11, and a supporting member or hook 12. The parts 10 and 11 are formed of sheet material and are creased to fold along various longitudinal and transverse lines as will be hereinafter described. The body portion 10 may be formed of two parts 13 and 14 hinged together at 15 and each creased longitudinally along the lines 16 and 17, whereby each part 13 and 14: when in use is comprised of a middle section 18 and a pair of side sections 19 standing substantially at right angles to the section 18. The connecting member 11 may similarly be formed of two parts 20 and 21 hinged together on the line 22 and creased to fold longitudinally along the lines 23, 24, 25 and 26 as shown in Fig. 2.

Each of the members 10 and 11 may be formed of anv suitable sheet material such paper board. leather and the like, and may be made with separate parts hinged together described or from a single piece of sheet material creased to fold along the lines indicated and suitably reinforced if necessary along the lines of fold.

The body portion 10 is provided with. a pair of eyelets 27 in its middle section 18, and the connecting member 11 is also provided with a pair of eyelets 28 in its middle portion 29. 'lhrough the eyelets 28 is passed a cord or ribbon 30 by which the book 12 is secured to the connecting member 11. The ends of the cord 30 after passing through the eyelets 28 may be secured to the connecting member at 31 by paste or other suitable means. A second cord or ribbon 32 may be passed through the eye lets 27 and 28, as indicated in Fig. 1 and may be utilized to support a pair of auxiliary gripping devices 33 if so desired.

When the, device is in use the parts assume the position indicated in Figs. 1 and 2. To reduce the device to closed condition it is first allowed to assume the position shown in Fig. 3 and thereafter the body portion 14: is folded over the portion 13 to assume the position shown in Fig. 1. hen in this condition, the cord 30 permits the hook 12 to assume the position indicated in Fig. 1 beyond the edge of the connecting member 11. When folded as shown in Fig. at the device may be readily carried in the pocket or may be stored in quantities in a comparatively small space.

It is obvious that the sides of the members l0 and 11 when formed of suitable material may be utilized to receive any desired advertising matter and that the whole device may be so cheaply constructed as to be available for free distribution as an advertising medium.

Certain of the advantages secured by my invention may still be obtained if the device is arranged to fold merely to the condition shown in Fig. 3, and when so constructed the transverse folds will be omitted. It is then equally suitable for receiving advertising matter and may still be stored in quantities in limited space.

In the modified form shown in Fig. 5, each part of the body portion is arranged to fold along an additional line 3 1, suitably reinforced 1f necessary. By this con struction, the space occupied by the device when closed is still further reduced.

Having thus described my invention it will be clear that many modifications of the device may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as expressed in the claims and I do not wish to be limited to the details disclosed herein, but

lVhat I do claim is 1. A folding garment hanger comprising a body portion and supporting means therefor, said body portion being formed of sheet material and folded upwardly along two parallel, longitudinal lines when the hanger is in use, and folded transversely when it is closed.

2. A folding garment hanger having in combination a body portion and a connecting member, said connect-ing member being formed of sheet material hinged to the body portion at two separated points and folded along a plurality of parallel, longitudinal lines when the hanger is in use, and along a single transverse line when it is closed.

3. A folding garment hanger having in combination a body portion and a connectingrmember, said body portion and member being each folded longitudinally when the hanger is in use, and folded transversely when it is closed.

In a garment hanger, in combination, a body portion and a connecting member, said body portion being formed of two parts hinged together transversely of said body, and each part being formed with a middle section and two side sections standing substantially at right angles to said middle section when the device is in use and extending in the same plane as said middle portion when the device is closed.

5. In a garment hanger in combination, a body portion, a hook, a connecting member, and a cord so securing said hook to said member that when the hanger is closed, the hook may lie flat between the folded sections of the body portion and beyond the folded portions of the connecting member.

6. A foldinggarment hanger having in combination a body portion and a connecting member, said body portion and member being each formed of sheet material folded longitudinally when the hanger is in use and forming fiat surfaces when the hanger is closed.
