COMBINED CIGARETTE .ANl) MATCH BOX.
ins'ma'r.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented-Sept. a, 1912;
Application filed 'February 28, 1912. .Serial N 0.,680,530. f
To all, whom it may concern:
GLEASON, a citizen of the United States, re-
siding at Newport'News, in the-oounty-ot Warwick and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Cigarette and Match Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being'had to the accompanying draw- 111 s.
Ihis invention relates to new and useful improvements in cigar and cigarette boxes and more particularly to a combined cigar or cigarette and match box, the object of the invention being to provide a combination box of this character which will savethe retail dealers the expense of furnishing matches with each'purchase and at the same time will provide the consumer, of the special brand used in these boxes, with matches for their cigarettes or cigars. f
' Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will possess advantages in points of efficiency and durability, is inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.
v With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a box constructed in accordance with my 1nven-.
\ tion; Fig. 2 is an end elevation; Fig. 3 is a sectional'view on the line 33 of Fig. 2;
and Fig. 4.:lS a transverse sectional view.-
Referring more particularly to the drawings 1 indicates the casing in which is slidably arrangedthereceptacle 2.
The receptacle-2 is made of a single blank of card-board or other suitable material and folded to form the back?) and the sides 4 extending from each side of the back, the end portions of said body being folded to form the ends 5 of the receptacle and the upper and lowerfiaps, 6 and 7 respectively, of the front of the receptacle. These upper and lower flaps 6 and 7 are held in place by means of the casin .1 fitting snugly over the receptacle after 1t has been folded. The.
A plurality of matches 9 are arranged between the inner and outer sections of the on the rear side of the inner section to hold the matches securely in place.
It will be fully understood that I do not desire to limit myself to thisspecific form of fastener but desire to use such means as would be suitable for the purpose.
A scratcher 11 is secured to the lower end of the receptacle'so'that the matches can be quickly ignited after being removed from between the inner and outer sections of the flap 7 I In the drawings I have shown the inner and outer sections of the flap 7 formed integral, but it will be understood that seetionsmay be made in two pieces ifso desired. It will be understood that the flap '6 7 may be changed in proportion so that the matches 9 may be secured thereto instead of to the flap 7 as shown in the drawings- It will also be understood that the outer section of theflap 7 may be eliminated'an'd the matches secured to the 'end ofthe flap and arrangedbetween the flap and the casing 1.
.A box constructed in accordance with the above description is usually made to contain ten cigarettes or cigars, but not limited to thisnumber, and in the drawings it will be seen that I have provided one match to each cigarette or cigar,.mor e or less may be provided if desired. I
v I -10o WhileI-have shown and described-the preferred form of my'invention it will be I obviousthat various changes in the details of construction and inthe, proportions may be resorted to for successfully carryin my invention into practice without sacri cing any of. the novel features or departing from the scope thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is I,
In a device of the character described, the combination with a casing, a container slid- 2 a i i,o37 ,237
ably mountedtherein, having upper and lower flaps, said lower flap being folded upon itself to form inner and outer sections and its extreme end disposed adjacent the lower end of the casing, of a plurality of matches. having their stems arranged bethe eontainer and covered by the extreme 10 end ofthe flap.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
