Abstract

The guard (1) comprises an essentially tubular sleeve (2) with two open ends. Closure means (3, 4, 6) at both ends of the sleeve are used to seal it liquid-tight against the arm or leg. An openable section (10) on the front side comprises a tear-proof elastic cloth (11) with self-sealing properties and at least one exit opening (7) connectable to a vessel for collecting liquid. A disposable guard for enclosing an extremity during arthroscopic investigation and/or treatment of a shoulder or knee joint using a liquid or salt solution pumped into the joint under pressure in order to form a treatment region by separating the joint surfaces, comprises an essentially tubular sleeve with two open ends. Closure means at both ends of the sleeve are used to seal it liquid-tight against the arm or leg, above or below the treatment region. An openable section on the front side comprises a tear-proof elastic cloth with self-sealing properties and at least one exit opening connectable to a vessel for collecting liquid.
