Description
Title: Transportable system for providing a temporary sport court on a foundation, and method for providing a temporary sport court
The invention relates to a transportable system for providing a temporary sport court on a foundation according to the preamble of claim 1, as well as a method for providing a temporary sport court on a foundation.
A transportable system of this type is used to create a temporary sport court on an existing foundation, such as a parking lot, a beach, a city square, a sports field, or a lawn. The sport court includes a use surface and may include walls, and accessories such as nets and goals. The type of sport court determines the size of the court, the accessories and the characteristics of the optional walls. In particular, the sport court is a court for a ball sport, such as football/soccer variants, volleyball, basketball, or a racquet sport, such as padel, tennis, or squash.
A transportable system for providing a temporary sport court on a foundation is known from WO-2016/139.383-A1 (W0’383). WO'383 discloses a portable structure for temporary sports and/or leisure facilities consisting of at least one container with lateral sides, a roof and a bottom, and front and rear sides. The container frame comprises hinged means for unfolding from a folded position as a prismatic container to an unfolded position as a flat surface used as a base flooring for sports and/or leisure facilities. The long edges forming joins between the lateral sides, roof and bottom of the container are provided with hinges used as articulating means. One long edge is provided with openable closing means for the opening and unfolding of the frame.
A disadvantage of the transportable system of WO/383 is that the unfolding into a base flooring and the folding back into a container is cumbersome. One of the lateral sides and the roof need to be lifted together in order to pivot both lateral sides and the roof from the folded position to the unfolded position. Moreover, the lateral sides and roof are freely pivoting with respect to each other during the unfolding and folding, making the (un}folding operation difficult to control.
WQ’383 does not disclose a device or method to enable such an (un)folding operation in practice.
The current invention aims to solve at least one of these problems, or at least to provide an alternative. In particular, the invention aims to provide a transportable system for providing a temporary sport court on a foundation which is more easy to install than that of WO/383.
This aim is achieved by a transportable system for providing a temporary sport courton a foundation according to claim 1.
A transportable system for providing a temporary sport court on a foundation comprises a transport frame and a plurality of floor panels. The plurality of floor panels comprises at least a first floor panel and a second floor panel. Each of the plurality of floor panels comprises a use surface, a rear opposite of the use surface, a support edge, and a join edge, opposite of the support edge. A transport condition is defined wherein the first and second floor panel are provided in an upright orientation, the support edge of each floor panel is a lower edge of the respective floor panel, the join edge of each floor panel is an upper edge of the respective floor panel, and the transport frame supports the plurality of floor panels. A use condition is defined wherein the first and second floor panel are provided in a horizontal orientation with the use surfaces of the first and second floor panel facing upward for providing a sport field and the rears of the first and second floor panel facing the foundation. The system comprises at least one support rail which is placeable on the foundation and which is configured to receive the support side of at least the first floor panel.
The support rail enables a relative quick, and at the same time precise, placement of at least the first floor panel, in particular of both the first and the second floor panel, on the foundation.
In particular, the at least one support rail is configured to further receive the join side of at least the first floor panel.
In particular, the at least one support rail is configured to further receive the support side and/or the join side of the second floor panel.
In particular, the system comprises at least a second support rail for receiving the support side and/or the join side of the first and/or second floor panel.
In a further aspect, the invention is defined as a transportable system for providing a temporary sport court on a foundation comprises a transport frame and a plurality of floor panels.
The first and second floor panel are articulated with at least a first hinge at their respective join edges and are stacked together in the transport condition such, that the rear of the first floor panel faces the rear of the second floor panel.
The articulation with a first hinge at the respective join edges of the current invention enables the first and second floor panel to simply lower both join edges together towards the foundation while at the same time the respective support edges of the first and second floor panel move away from each other, while still supporting the respective floor panel. This results in a simultaneous pivoting of the first and second floor panel from the upright orientation in the transport condition to a horizontal orientation in the use condition. As the rears face each other in the transport condition, the position of the hinge ensures that they automatically face the foundation after the first and second floor panel have pivoted to the use condition. Each of these effects contributes to a simpler unfolding of the floor panels from the transport condition to the use condition.
Another advantage of the current invention is that the stack of floor panels is more compact than the container shaped arrangement of WO/383. As a result, one frame with floor panels according to the current invention is sufficient to create a temporary sport court for several sport types, such a padel, while at least two containers of the type of WO/383 are required to create a similar sized sport court.
Within the context of the current invention, the following definitions apply. Horizontal orientation includes orientations which deviate from an absolute level orientation within the tolerances as acceptable for the relevant sporting activity. Upright orientation is an orientation of 45 to 90 degrees with respect to the horizontal, in particular 70 to 90 degrees with respect to the horizontal. A hinge is any structure which joins the floor panels while allowing a pivoting movement of the floor panels with respect to each other.
Preferred embodiments are defined in the dependent claims.
In an embodiment, a support bearing is provided at the support side of the first floor panel, which support bearing allows a movement of the support side along the foundation. In particular, the support bearing comprises at least one support wheel. The support bearing, in particular the support wheel, facilitates the movement of the support side of the first floor panel away from the second floor panel, while transferring the weight of the first floor panel to the foundation.
In an embodiment, the at least one support rail is configured to receive the support side of the first floor panel via the support bearing in the use condition. The combination of the support bearing and the support rail facilitates the movement of at least the first floor panel independent of the characteristics of the surface of the foundation.
In an embodiment, at least one of the join edge and the support edge of at least one of the plurality of floor plates is provided with at least one connector, which connector protrudes from the relative floor plate and is engageable with the join edge, support edge respectively, of an adjoining floor plate in the use condition. The connector ensures a stable mutual connection of the relative floor plates in the use condition.
In an embodiment, the plurality of floor panels comprises a third floor panel and a fourth floor panel, wherein the third floor panel and the fourth floor panel are articulated with at least a second hinge at their respective join edges and are stacked together in the transport condition such, that the rear of the third floor panel faces the rear of the fourth floor panel and the use surface of the second floor panel faces the use surface of the third floor panel. Providing more floor panels increase the size of the sport court while limiting the height of the floor panels on the transport frame in the transport condition. The third and fourth floor panel can be pivoted and moved in a similar manner as the first and second floor panel, directly after, or at the same time as, the first and second floor panel thanks to the orientation of the rear and use surfaces.
In an embodiment, the transport frame comprises a first transport frame part and a second transport frame part which are separably joined together in the transport condition and spaced apart in the use condition, wherein the first transport frame part supports at least the first floor panel and the second floor panel and the second transport frame part supports at least two further floor panels of the plurality of floor panels. The first transport frame part and the second transport frame part enable the plurality of floor panels to be split and divided over the foundation before the floor panels are moved towards their intended position on the foundation.
In particular, the first transport frame part and the second transport frame part are mirror images of each other. They support similar floor panels and optional further equipment. This reduces the cost of engineering and building the transport frame parts and facilitates the setting up of the sport court.
In particular, the system comprises at least one further support rail, wherein the at least one further support rail is configured to receive the support side of at least one of the at least two further floor panels. in an embodiment, the system comprises a mesh with markings, wherein the mesh is provided in the use condition between the foundation and the floor panels and the markings indicate support points for the floor panels. This obviates the need to make measurements and enables a quick set-up of the sport court.
In an embodiment, the system comprises a plurality of underprops which are placeable on the foundation to support the plurality of floor panels. in particular, the underprops comprise shim plates.
In an embodiment, at least one of the plurality of floor panels comprises at least one adjustable foot. This facilitates the placing and levelling of the floor panels on an irregular or non- level foundation. in an embodiment, the system comprises a winch for lowering and/or raising at least a part of the plurality of floor panels from the upright orientation to the horizontal orientation, or vice versa.
in an embodiment, the system comprises a plurality of walls which are provided on the transport frame in the transport condition. This enables the creation of an enclosed sports court. In particular, the transport frame comprises a first transport frame part and a second transport frame part, and a part of the plurality of walls is provided on the first transport frame part and another 5 part of the plurality of walls is provided on the second transport frame part.
In an embodiment, the system comprises at least one accessory from a list comprising a net, a goal, a basketball basket, and lighting. During the pivoting, the support wheels 51, 52 of the first floor panel 21 roll over the relevant support rails 61, 62 so that the support sides 34 of first and second floor panel 21, 22 spread from each other until they achieve the maximum relative distance. At this moment, the first and second floor panel 21, 22 are horizontal and the optional third and fourth support wheels 53, 54 at the join sides 36 of both floor plates 21, 22 engage the first and second supports rails 61, 62 too. The first and second floor panel 21, 22 are then moved towards the middle of the future sport court 2 using the support wheels 51, 52, 53, 54 and the support rails 61, 62. In this way, space is created for the third and fourth floor panel 23, 24 to be lowered in a similar manner. Preferably, the winch 91 is used for moving the first, second, third and fourth floor panel 21-24 over the support rails 61, 62, and for tensioning the plurality of floor panels 20 with respect to each other and/or towards the lower back wall 101.
The further floor plates 25, 26, 27, 28 on the second frame part 12 are lowered and moved over the respective support rails 63, in a similar fashion as the floor plates on the first frame part 11. The adjustable feet 84 of the plurality of floor plates 20 are extended downwards by engaging the spindles of the adjustable feet by means of a tool, such as a battery powered screwdriver or cordless drill, such that the respective foot plates bear on the foundation 4. By adjusting the height of the adjustable feet 84 the floor plates 20 are levelled to compensate for an irregular and/or not level foundation 4.
A further step is to pivot the lower side walls 103 on each transport frame part 11, 12 from their transport position parallel to the lower back wall 101 towards a position parallel to the longitudinal sides of the sport court 2. Each upper back wall 102 is pivoted upwards with respect to the lower back wall 101 and the upper side walls 104 are pivoted upwards with respect to lower side walls 103. Finally, the separate side walls 105 are put in their use positions. The plurality of walls 100 are connected to each other and/or to the plurality of floor panels 20 by not shown means, such as bolts and nuts.
The use surface 30 of the plurality of floor panels 20 is optionally provided with a further sport surface, with characteristics for the intended sports activity. Finally, one or more accessories 110, such as a net 112, one or two goals 114, or one or two basketball baskets 116 is provided depending on the type of sports activity, as well as further optional accessories, such as lighting (not shown).
After using the sport court 2 for an intended period of time, it is disassembled in an order opposite of the above described steps. The system 1 is then transported to a temporary storage space, or direct to a next location where the sport court 2 is desired.

In an embodiment, the use surface is covered with flooring material, e.g. in the form of tiles.
The flooring material is preferably made of resilient plastic, such as high impact Copolymer
Polypropylene, or other materials with shock absorbing properties. The flooring material has preferably drainage characteristics, e.g. by means of an open grid.
The sizes and number of floor panels depend on the required size of the sport court.
Preferably, the width of the resulting floor is less than 12 meter, so that the transport frame has a length which corresponds to that of a standard 40’ ISO sea container.
A preferred hinge for floor panels and/or the articulated walls of the current invention is a barrel hinge. In an alternative, a flexible hinge such as a living hinge or integral hinge is used. In an embodiment, the articulation between the first and second floor panel and/or the articulation between the third and fourth floor panel comprises a plurality of hinges. in an embodiment, the floor panels of the plurality of floor panels of which the use surface face each other, such as of the second and third floor panel, and/or the sixth and seventh floor panel, are articulated at their support sides.
In an alternative embodiment, the support bearing is a slide bearing. In an embodiment, the support bearing engages directly with the foundation and/or the mesh. In an embodiment, the support rails are provided on the transport frame in the transport condition. In particular, the support rails are pivoted and/or slid away from the transport frame towards their use position in the use condition. In an alternative embodiment, the support rails are provided separately. in an embodiment, at least two of the connectors of adjoining floor plates are designed to engage each other in the use condition. in an embodiment, the first and second transport frame comprise mutually cooperation connection means for providing a releasable connection between the first and second transport frame in the transport condition.
The underprops can be any shape, such as circular or rectangular, and are made of wood, plastic, or any other suitable material.
In an embodiment, the adjustable feet are adjusted by means of a hydraulic system. In an embodiment, the winch is a powered winch, in particular an electrically powered winch. In an embodiment, at least two, in particular at least three, adjustable feet are provided at the corners of at least one, in particular of each, of the plurality of floor panels. In an embodiment, one, two, or three fixed feet are provided at the corners of at least one of the plurality of floor panels.
In an embodiment, all of the plurality of walls are provided on the transport frame. In an alternative embodiment, at least part of the separate side walls are provided via a separate transport means. In an embodiment, all accessories are provided on the transport frame. In an alternative embodiment, at least part of the accessories are provided via a separate transport means.
