Abstract

Disclosed are a method and apparatus for acquiring a reference frame applied to bidirectional inter-frame prediction, relating to the technical field of video image encoding and decoding, and improving the efficiency of encoding and decoding. The method comprises: determining a first reference frame list and a second reference frame list of a current image block; determining, from the first reference frame list, whether an X-direction reference frame x1 satisfying a condition A1 exists; determining, from the second reference frame list, whether a Y-direction reference frame y1 satisfying a condition B1 exists; and in response to the determined as existing X-direction reference frame x1 and the determined as existing Y-direction reference frame y1, acquiring bidirectional reference frame index values (R1, R2) of the current image block.
