Abstract
Description
In general, polymers having no polar group are generally hydrophobic. However, depending on the application, the hydrophilicity of these polymers may be required. The inherent hydrophobicity of the polymers is difficult to change by itself unless the polymer structure is changed. Therefore, the present invention intends to increase the hydrophilicity of the entire polymer composite by dispersing a small amount of the hydrophilic fillers in the polymer matrix resin at the nano level. . The polymer nanocomposite is a composite material having a dispersing phase of less than a micron and exhibits excellent mechanical and physical performances compared to conventional composite materials. Dispersing the filler in the polymer resin in nano size makes the contact surface area much larger, thereby improving mechanical properties, barrier properties, thermal properties, and flame retardancy. Mechanical properties include improved strength, dimensional stability, strength factor, heat deflection temperature, impact resistance and corrosion resistance, and are used to manufacture materials and components that can meet the demands of advanced industrial materials. With improved mechanical properties, smaller, lighter, but stronger and better physical properties can be manufactured to reduce manufacturing costs and increase yields. It is well known to improve the properties by mixing the polymer material with nano-level fillers to make a composite material. For example, peeled silicate or nanometer-thick clay plate filled in polymers is much smaller than conventional fillers (US Patent 6469073) because of the increased surface area when nano-level fillers are dispersed. This is because it is sufficiently bonded with the polymer matrix resin. The most studied material for producing such nanocomposites is aluminum silicate clay, montmorillonite is a representative example.
In the natural state, clay is formed by lamination of plate-shaped particles with ionic electrostatic forces and van der Waals attraction. The interlayer distance is 1 nm, which is smaller than that of ordinary polymers. Thus, without special interactions, entropy barriers are large for large polymer molecules to enter the layers (V. Ginzburg et al. Macromolecules, 2000, 33, 1089). Most clays are hydrophilic while many polymers are hydrophobic. Therefore, by dispersing these hydrophilic clays evenly in the polymer resin at the nano level, it is possible to increase the hydrophilicity of the whole polymer resin by adding a small amount. In general, since the clay particles are hydrophilic and incompatible with hydrophobic polymers, the compatibility with the polymers is increased when the clay particles are treated with an organic cationic compound to help their dispersion. Attempts have been made to make nanocomposites in which clay plates are dispersed in polymers by treating clay particles with organic cations and then impregnating and polymerizing polymer monomers (Kojima, J. Mat. Res. 8, 1185, 1189). However, the process of polymerizing the monomer into the polymer after impregnating the clay particles does not completely peel off as theoretically expected even though partial peeling occurs, and also has a difficult side effect of polymerizing the polymer. Especially in the case of polypropylene, which requires a complicated synthesis process, polymerization in the presence of clay is impossible. Recently, studies have been made to polymerize polymers using high solubility of supercritical fluids or pseudocritical fluids (subcritical fluids). The use of supercritical or pseudocritical fluids simplifies the purification process of the polymers synthesized and is an environmentally friendly process due to vaporization of critical fluids when the prepared polymer solution is applied to coating or microparticle manufacturing. Processes using these critical fluids have also begun to be used to make composites (US Patent 649073, US Patent 2002/008233). In general, all gases become supercritical fluids at or above critical temperatures and pressures. The advantage of these supercritical fluids over ordinary liquids or gases is that they can be controlled by simply changing pressure and temperature. For example, supercritical fluids can have higher dispersion and lower viscosity than liquids, while maintaining a constant density like liquids. A method of interlayer separation or partial exfoliation of layered silicate compounds using supercritical fluids has been developed (US Patent 64690973). However, several other processes have been developed, in part by layered silicates. Clay particles) could be exfoliated or split, but in reality few complete delaminations were achieved.
따라서 친수성인 실리케이트나 클레이 나노입자의 응집체들을 고분자수지 내에 완전히 박리된 구조를 갖게 함으로써 전체 고분자 수지의 친수성을 증가시키는 나노복합체를 개발할 필요가 있다.
Therefore, it is necessary to develop a nanocomposite that increases the hydrophilicity of the entire polymer resin by having a structure in which the aggregates of hydrophilic silicates or clay nanoparticles are completely peeled off in the polymer resin.
An object of the present invention is to prepare a process for increasing the hydrophilicity of a polymer composite prepared by uniformly dispersing a hydrophilic filler in a hydrophobic polymer and a polymer composite thereof. To this end, a compound of hydrophilic silicate (clay) having a hydrophilic layered structure is mixed with an emulsifier or a compatibilizer, so that these organic components penetrate into the layered structure or aggregate, and then mixed with a polymer matrix resin in an extruder or an internal mixer. It is cut into granules and the supercritical (or subcritical) adsorbed by adding a supercritical or subcritical high-pressure fluid in the pressurized reactor to infiltrate the interlayer and adsorbing on the surface of the particle and then lowering and releasing the reactor pressure. The rapid expansion of the fluid expands the space between the layered structure and the aggregates, so that the nanoparticles are completely separated from each other in the polymer matrix resin, and the polymer molecules are filled therebetween so that the dispersed particle plates are not aggregated again. Completely peeled off in the mother resin Since it is dispersed and strongly bonded to the polymer matrix resin due to the large surface area of the nanoparticles, it is possible to realize the characteristics of the ideal nanocomposite and at the same time to produce the polymer nanocomposite and nanofoam with enhanced hydrophilicity.
본 발명의 또 다른 목적 및 장점은 이하의 본 발명에관한 보다 상세한 설명으로부터 명백해질 것이다. Still other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description of the invention.
It is an object of the present invention as described above that less than 50% by weight (preferably less than 20% by weight more preferably less than 5% by weight) of clay particles are of the same weight (preferably less than 20% by weight more preferably less than 5% by weight). More preferably, less than 1% by weight of the emulsifier or compatibilizer is mixed in a mixer, and then injected into granules or a film, which is absorbed into a supercritical or subcritical fluid in a pressurized reactor. It is achieved by making an expanded foam by spraying into a vessel at atmospheric or low pressure and extruding it through a kneading extruder at a temperature above the melting point of the parent resin or by pressing into an extruder to make a film. The compatibilizer plays a role of partially slicing the clay particles and the pressurized fluid is adsorbed between the surface of the clay particles and the polymer molecules in the composite where the partially peeled clay is dispersed, and then rapidly expands when they are released to the low pressure atmosphere. This is accomplished by completely peeling off the clay plate to achieve dispersion in the foam. The distribution of clay particles in the resulting foam was measured using a scanning electron microscope, a transmission electron microscope, and an incineration X-ray scattering apparatus. After preparing these nanocomposites, they were pressed into an extruder to make a film, and then the water permeability of the prepared film was measured (to determine whether the Mocon manufactured film was hydrophilic.

The above-mentioned clay particles are characterized in that they are selected from the group consisting of montmorillonite, bentonite, kaolinite, mica, hectorite, stevensite, vermiculite, halosite, volconcite, marganite, kenyalite, and mixtures thereof. . The compatibilizer interacts with the ionic groups of the clay organicized in the polymer backbone or side chains to open up the clay layers and at the same time allow the high pressure foam fluid to enter between these open clays and easily adsorb on the clay surface. Works. The polymer may be used for most general purpose or engineering plastics. Important process variables in achieving the patent objective are the pressure and temperature of the fluid. In the case of supercritical fluids, liquids and gases cannot be distinguished because they reach a state exceeding a limit of a certain high temperature and high pressure, but the high pressure fluids used in the present patent are gases used during foaming and the state is supercritical or less. Any critical state can be used. Supercritical fluids have very high solubility and dispersibility and are different from normal fluids. In the present invention, pressurized fluid is added thereto using a conventional pressure vessel (autoclave). In the embodiment of the present invention, the carbon dioxide CO 2 under high pressure and high temperature, which is environmentally friendly and relatively easy to handle, is used, but water, ammonia, and the like may also be used. Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to the following examples. However, these examples are only illustrative of the present invention, and it is intended that the present invention is not limited to these examples.
In the example of the present invention, a copolymer of polypropylene, which is a typical general-purpose resin, was used as the polyolefin-based plastic, and montmorillonite of Sardon Clay was used as the clay material. The thermoplastic resins used in the present invention may use all thermoplastic resins. Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to the following examples. However, these examples are only illustrative of the present invention, and it is intended that the present invention is not limited to these examples.
Observation of the fracture surfaces of the particles prepared in Examples 1 and 2 of the present invention by scanning electron microscopy shows that foaming was relatively uniform in both cases (FIG. 1). It can be seen that in the supercritical state (130 o C sup and 120 o C sup), smaller foams are produced than in the subcritical state (135 o C sub). It means that the nucleus is formed. In all three cases, it can be seen that the smaller particles result in the addition of clay particles, since the clay particles act as foams. It can be seen that when clay particles are added, the supercritical state during weaving results in a smaller and more uniform foam than the subcritical state.
The distribution of clay particles can be confirmed by incineration X-ray scattering and transmission electron microscopy. The 2θ characteristic peak of clay used in the present invention is shown at about 3.7 degrees (FIG. 2 (a)). When polypropylene added with compatibilizing maleic anhydride is mixed with clay, the characteristic peak of clay appears at a lower angle. (B)) This means that the interlayer spacing is widened according to Bragg's law, which is a sign of conventional delamination of clay particles. The intensity of the peak is lower as the degree of peeling of the clay layers proceeds. When the interlayer separated clay mixture is mixed with the polypropylene copolymer and then foamed, the fluid adsorbed between the polymer and the clay expands under pressure release according to the mechanism of FIG. 3, and the clay particles are completely separated. . X-ray analysis of these results indicate that the characteristic peaks of clay have disappeared completely. This means that the delamination of the clay particles occurred completely so that the clay particles were completely peeled off. The state of the dispersed clay particles can be directly confirmed by transmission electron microscope, which is shown in FIG. In the case of pure clay particles, it can be seen from Fig. 4 (a) that the plate structures of hundreds to thousands of layers are aggregated, and the thickness ratio of the cross section length is very large. In the case of partially separated particles (clay mixed with polypropylene with maleic anhydride), the clay is dispersed but there are several layers together (Fig. 4 (b)). It can be seen that they are completely separated (Fig. 4 (c, d, e)). Transmission electron micrographs show that the monolayers of clay particles can be seen, which are superdispersed or subcritical but clearly dispersed. Some of the clay particles stay together within a certain distance, but not irregularly, and do not show characteristic peaks because the peeled layers are not far apart. The clay particles completely peeled to the extent that the characteristic peaks disappear can be separated into individual monolayer structures even when the clay is mixed up to 17% by weight. In Example 3, when the foam containing the completely separated clay was used as the masterbatch, the mixture was mixed with the polypripropylene copolymer again and subjected to the extrusion process once more. The disappearance of the characteristic peaks appears again (Fig. 2 (e)). The transmission electron micrograph shows that the two types of clay particles co-exist again with the aggregated aggregate and still in the exfoliated state (Fig. 4). (e)). The moisture permeability of the prepared particles (Fig. 5) shows that the hydrophilic clay particles are completely evenly dispersed, so that the moisture permeability of the film produced by pressing the foam increases and the clay content increases. It can be seen that the higher. In other words, the increase in moisture permeability means that the hydrophilicity of these composite films themselves is increased, and when 1 wt% clay is added to the pure polypropylene copolymer, it can be seen that the foam using supercritical fluid increases by more than 40%. . Recompression films of fully dispersed clay-containing supercritical foams can produce nanocomposites with increased hydrophilicity.

실시예 1.Example 1.
Polypropylene with a compatibilizing maleic anhydride and clay (montmorillonite 20A) are mixed in a weight ratio of 1 to 3: 1 (preferably 2: 1) and mixed for 10 minutes at 200 ° C. in an internal stirrer to form a mixture. The mixture is mixed with a polypropylene copolymer (polypropylene-ethylene butadiene triple copolymer) in an appropriate weight ratio to obtain an appropriate fraction according to the clay content in the whole mixture, and then the polypropylene processing temperature (200 in a twin screw or single screw extruder). Extrude and cut at ~ 220 o C) to form particles. The prepared particles are placed in a reactor and injected with a fluid at high temperature and high pressure (supercritical state). If the outlet is opened after a certain time, a sudden pressure decrease occurs and the fluid absorbed in the particles expands to form a foam. At this time, the fluid adsorbed between the polymer and the surface of the clay particles expands, causing the clay to peel off, thereby completely removing the clay. To be uniformly dispersed in the polymer foam. These dispersion states were measured using a scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope and small angle X-ray scattering apparatus.
