The present invention relates to a carbon nanocomposite material that can be used as a lithium secondary battery negative electrode active material and a method for manufacturing the same, and more particularly, in a negative electrode active material based on a carbon material, to improve the performance as a negative electrode active material, such as metal The present invention relates to a carbon nanocomposite for a lithium secondary battery negative electrode active material in which components are uniformly dispersed and complexed in a carbon material, and a method of manufacturing the same.

Lithium-ion secondary battery used in mobile phones, PDAs, digital cameras, camcorders, etc. is composed of a chemical cell system using an oxide as a cathode material and a graphite material as a cathode material, and a slurry in which these electrode materials are mixed with a suitable binder and a conductive material. Each of them manufactures a positive electrode plate and a negative electrode plate, and forms a core cell by winding or stacking them together with a separator to manufacture a lithium ion secondary battery such as a cylinder, a square, and a pouch.

Various studies have been made to improve the performance of the lithium ion secondary battery, in particular, capacity and energy density. To this end, a method of improving performance by improving the design and a method of improving performance by developing and improving materials have been studied, but the most dramatic improvement is mainly due to the development of an electrode active material.

Although lithium metal is used in the negative electrode in response to the lithium transition metal oxide used as the positive electrode material, the energy density is high and the self-discharge rate is low. However, some serious problems occur when the battery is actually used by charging and discharging. First, lithium metal is dissolved in lithium ions in the electrolyte at the time of discharge, and then precipitated at the cathode as lithium metal at the time of charge. However, it is often formed from fine crystals. This type of crystal continues to grow as charging progresses and eventually penetrates through a separator to reach the anode, which causes internal short circuits and cycle characteristics to deteriorate. In addition, since charging with a large current is easy to crystallize, the cycle characteristics are rapidly deteriorated during rapid charging.

Second, lithium metal is sufficiently exhibited the high energy density characteristics of lithium for a small load, the energy utilization is lowered because the cathode utilization is lowered during high load discharge. On the other hand, the cycle characteristics are relatively good at high load discharges but are significantly lowered at low load discharges. Therefore, when lithium metal is used in the negative electrode, it is very difficult to achieve both load characteristics and cycle characteristics.

Due to the above problems, instead of using lithium metal as a negative electrode, electrochemical intercalation / deintercalation of lithium ions is possible, and a carbon material having a value similar to that of lithium metal is used as a negative electrode material. Lithium-ion secondary batteries have been developed. In other words, when a carbon material capable of forming an interlayer compound is used for the negative electrode, only lithium moves during charging and discharging, and thus the electrode negative electrode material retains its original shape, thereby improving battery life.

Therefore, although the graphite material having the above advantages has been attracting attention as the negative electrode active material, due to the limit of the theoretical capacity of 372 mAh / g, the research on the negative electrode materials that can be replaced in the future is made continuously ought.

In other words, the graphite material retains its original form, and thus has a reversible capacity value of about 360 mAh / g, despite the advantages that the life of the battery can be improved, and the metal material has an initial capacity of about 1000 mAh / g or more. In order to combine these advantages, there have been attempts for a composite material of graphite and metal. The most important thing in this compounding process is to increase the dispersibility between the materials to be compounded. In the case of using the mechanical alloying method that has been tried so far for the compounding of electrochemically active materials such as carbon materials and metal materials, As the intrinsic crystal structure collapsed, the final result was a composite composed of only the shortcomings of graphite and metal-based materials, and thus often showed worse physical properties than before compounding. Successful examples of compounding include Ag-dispersed graphites using silver mirror reactions. This method was also used to disperse silver on the surface of graphite-based materials, thereby allowing the surface to be complexed. The metal was not evenly distributed.

Therefore, the present invention is based on carbon nanofibers having a high graphitization degree, in order to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art described above, the material that can be used as other negative electrode active material such as carbon nanofibers and metal in the bulk nanoscale By providing a uniformly dispersed and composite material at, it has a high discharge capacity of more than 372 mAh / g, which is the theoretical charge capacity limit of the graphite material, and excellent low-voltage lithium storage capacity (under 0.5V vs. Li / Li + ), An object of the present invention is to provide a carbon nanocomposite and a method for manufacturing the same, which can be used as a negative electrode active material for a high performance secondary battery having a high density and a high energy density.

In order to achieve the above object, the present invention has a bulk made of carbon nanofibers, and each of the carbon nanofibers has a material having a carbon nanofiber synthesis catalytic activity and a material having a negative electrode material characteristic of a lithium secondary battery. The composite material is bonded to provide a carbon nanocomposite having a structure in which the composite material is evenly dispersed in a bulk made of the carbon nanofibers.

In addition, according to the present invention, a carbon nanocomposite having a carbon hexagonal net surface distance d 002 of less than 0.34 nm can be obtained.

Furthermore, the present invention provides carbon in the synthesis of carbon nanofibers by a gas phase synthesis method in which a raw material gas containing a carbon component is vapor-decomposed at a predetermined temperature range to grow carbon nanofibers from a catalyst surface in order to provide the carbon nanocomposite. After using a composite material of a material having a nanofiber synthesis catalyst activity and a material having a negative electrode material characteristics of a lithium secondary battery as a carbon nanofiber growth catalyst, the catalyst is reduced in a reducing atmosphere of 200 ℃ to 1000 ℃, The composite material is bonded to the distal end by synthesizing carbon nanofibers by vapor-decomposing the source gas of carbon nanofibers mixed with hydrogen on the surface of the catalyst in the mobile phase and / or the fixed phase to 200 ° C to 1000 ° C. With bulk made of nanofibers Provided is a method for producing a carbon nanocomposite.

In addition, the source gas is preferably mixed with at least one inert carrier gas selected from the group consisting of He, Ar, N 2 , air.

In addition, the present invention provides a negative electrode active material for a lithium ion secondary battery having excellent physical properties by pressurizing, pulverizing or otherwise mechanically treating the carbon nanocomposite according to the present invention.

In addition, the present invention provides a lithium ion secondary battery comprising a negative electrode prepared by including a carbon nanocomposite according to the present invention.

Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail.

In the case of using a carbon material as an active material of a negative electrode of a secondary battery, lithium ions are electrochemically intercalated between carbon layers and charged when discharged. In contrast, the carbon material used in the negative electrode has a high graphitization layer. The case of having a crystalline structure and the structure in which these structures are mixed with amorphous portions can be roughly divided, and a case where a layered crystal structure is completely formed, such as natural graphite, is sometimes referred to as graphite.

In order to improve the performance of the carbon material as the negative electrode active material as described above, the present invention aims at the compounding of a form in which a material having the characteristics of the negative electrode active material such as carbon material and a metal is evenly dispersed. Since graphite requires a graphitization treatment of 2400 ° C. or higher, most of the pores are lost or only closed pores are present by this treatment. Therefore, in order to composite nanoscale composite materials such as metal-based materials and existing graphite materials by mechanical alloying method, graphite materials should be pulverized into dozens to hundreds of nanoscale graphite particles. The structure was forced to collapse, and thus 0.5 V vs. Activities below Li / Li + (standard Li potential) were significantly reduced. In addition, in the conventional method, the firing temperature is higher than 1000 ° C. during the production of the material. In this case, a specific amount of the specific amount decreases because the metal carbide having electrochemically inertness is generated. Alternatively, even when attempting to produce by dispersing a metal or the like on a nano-scale in the process of producing a graphite material, the crystallinity is lowered due to the interfering action of the metal, etc., and the electrochemically inert by a graphitization treatment of 2400 ℃ or more Since the material is produced, the above-described methods are uniformly dispersed and complexed with carbon-based materials and other materials, thereby obtaining a carbon nanocomposite for use as a high-performance negative electrode active material having a high graphitization degree and exceeding the theoretical charging capacity limit of the graphite material. There was no.

Accordingly, the present invention has adopted a method of using a composite material as a catalyst in the synthesis of carbon nanofibers to provide a carbon nanocomposite material in which the composite material is evenly dispersed in a bulk made of a carbon material. Hereinafter, the term “composite material” is a material in which a material having a carbon nanofiber synthesis catalyst activity and a material having a negative electrode material characteristic of a lithium secondary battery are combined, and used as a growth catalyst for carbon nanofiber synthesis, thereby It refers to a material that is bonded to the end of the fiber, can be evenly dispersed in the carbon nanocomposite according to the present invention.

Methods for synthesizing carbon nanofibers or carbon nanotubes include arc-discharge, laser vaporization, plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition, and thermal chemical vapor deposition. ), Vapor phase growth method, electrolysis method, flame synthesis method, and the like are known, but the method of preparing the carbon nanocomposite according to the present invention is basically based on the principle of the vapor phase synthesis method, and the present invention is based on this method. It consists of synthesizing carbon nanofibers by including the characteristic elements of the present invention to be described later.

The conventional method for producing carbon nanofibers or carbon nanotubes by the gas phase synthesis method is a method for synthesizing carbon nanotubes in the gas phase by directly supplying a reaction gas and a catalyst metal to the reactor, and thus to synthesize a large amount of carbon nanotubes. Known as an advantageous method. In this facility, a device for supplying a reaction gas is installed, and a boat containing catalytic metal powder is installed in the reactor. When the fine catalyst metal particles supplied in the first temperature region reach the second temperature region, carbon vapor decomposed from the source gas by the high temperature is adsorbed onto the catalyst metal particles and then diffused to grow carbon nanotubes in the catalyst metal particles, Synthesis proceeds.

In addition, the present invention, after reducing the catalyst in a high-temperature reducing atmosphere (for a reducing atmosphere using hydrogen and an inert gas, that is, a mixture of inert gas such as nitrogen, argon, helium, etc.), hydrogen gas to the source gas Disclosed by the inventors of the present invention that by providing the mixture, the gaseous decomposition of the source gas on the surface of the catalyst in the mobile or fixed bed to obtain a highly crystalline carbon nanotube at a reaction temperature of a relatively low temperature (900 ℃ or less) The method of manufacturing carbon nanotubes of Patent Application No. 2002-40644 is applied.

As described above, in order to provide a carbon nanocomposite according to the present invention, the present invention is a negative electrode material of a lithium secondary battery and a material having a carbon nanofiber synthesis catalyst activity in the carbon nanofiber synthesis process by the conventional vapor phase synthesis method Using a composite material of a material having a characteristic as a carbon nanofiber growth catalyst, the catalyst is reduced in a reducing atmosphere of 200 ℃ to 1000 ℃, and then mixed with hydrogen on the surface of the catalyst in the mobile phase and / or fixed phase The present invention provides a method for gas phase decomposition of a raw material gas of a fiber at 200 ° C. to 1000 ° C., and thus the composite material according to the present invention, which is used as a catalyst, is bonded to the end portion of the carbon nanofibers grown from the catalyst. The nanofibers are bulk in the form of beads, etc., whereby the composite material is evenly dispersed in the bulk. Carbon nanocomposites of the structure can be obtained. Furthermore, since carbon nanocomposites made of carbon nanofibers are formed in nano-to-micropore-type pores, these pores may play a role in buffering the volume change of the negative electrode material during the operation of a lithium secondary battery.

The material having the carbon nanofiber synthesis catalytic activity and the material having the negative electrode material characteristics of the lithium secondary battery may be combined by a conventional alloying method, and may be combined by a chemical alloying method of melting and mixing two or more materials. In this case, there is a limit to the material that can be alloyed due to the difference in melting point of each material, and most of the material is limited to the metal, but the limit of the material that can be combined when using a composite by the mechanical alloying method Since there is almost no alloy, it is possible to produce various types of alloy materials, as well as the materials that can be bonded are not limited to metal components but to non-metallic components. Therefore, the composite materials used in the present invention are mainly used in mechanical alloying methods. It is desirable to.

Examples of the material having the carbon nanofiber synthesis catalyst activity include Co, Ni, Li, Fe, Al, Ge, Mn, Sb, Ag, and the like. The material having the catalytic activity according to the present invention is preferably selected from these. Can be. They have a common property of catalytic activity, so it is also possible to use more than two components.

Materials having the negative electrode material characteristics of the lithium secondary battery are Sn, Si, Mg, Pd, Zn, Co, Ni, B, P, S, Li, Ca, Se, C, F, Al, Ge, Sb, In , Ga, Ag, Fe, etc. Among them, Sn, Si, Mg, Pd, Zn, B, S, Li, C, Al, Ag, and the like are materials having electrochemical activity as a negative electrode active material of a lithium secondary battery. , C, F, Ge, Sb, In, Ga, Se, Fe, Ni, Ca, P and the like are materials that can stabilize the structure by being located between the pores of the carbon nanocomposite according to the present invention while improving the electrochemical activity admit. Therefore, the material having the negative electrode material characteristics according to the present invention may preferably be selected from them, one or two or more materials may be used as a matter of course.

When using the composite material combined with the materials as the synthesis catalyst of carbon nanofibers according to the present invention, after the composite of the materials in a separate process from the above-described synthesis process of carbon nanofibers, the composite material is synthesized It may be supplied to the inside to be used as a synthesis catalyst of carbon nanofibers, but even if the material is supplied into the synthesis apparatus in a state of simply uniformly mixed without going through a separate alloying process, etc., due to the conditions such as reducing atmosphere of the catalyst Since the bonding between the materials is made naturally, the carbon nanofiber growth catalyst may be provided in a state of a composite material in which the material having the catalytic activity and the material having the negative electrode material properties are combined.

This is based on the principle of alloying by sintering in the mechanical alloying method, and when sintering occurs between materials when about 80% of the melting point is applied to a mixture in which heterogeneous materials are uniformly mixed. It can be explained by.

The above-described composite material serves as a growth catalyst for carbon nanofibers in the production of the carbon nanocomposite according to the present invention, and when the prepared carbon nanocomposite is used as a negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery, In addition to improving chemical activity, by placing these materials in the gaps between the rods of the carbon nanofibers forming the bulk, it also plays a role of stabilizing the structure of the negative electrode material to improve the performance of the lithium secondary battery. .

A material that can be used as a raw material gas of carbon nanofibers is an organic compound containing carbon atoms, and in the present invention, the raw material gas selected from hydrocarbons between C1 and C5 and derivatives thereof including oxygen, fluorine, sulfur, and phosphorus. More than one species of gas can be used, and carbon atoms are vapor-decomposed from these gases during gas phase synthesis to grow carbon nanofibers from the surface of the catalyst. In addition, the source gas is preferably used by mixing with an inert gas such as He, Ar, N 2 , air as a carrier gas.

A carbon nanocomposite having a bulk made of carbon nanofibers having a composite material bonded to a distal end thereof is formed by the above-described method, and the bulk is shown in FIG. 1, which is an SEM photograph of a carbon nanocomposite prepared according to the present invention. It can be formed into a bead (bead) as shown. Accordingly, according to the present invention, a carbon nanocomposite having a high graphitization degree in which graphite crystals of several hundred nanometers scale and nanoparticles of a composite material are uniformly dispersed while maintaining their respective structures can be obtained.

The carbon nanocomposite thus obtained is preferably subjected to a treatment such as controlling the pore amount by a mechanical method in order to improve the performance of the lithium secondary battery as a negative electrode active material.

That is, by pressing the manufactured carbon nanocomposite with a hot isotropic press (HIP), etc., the pores are controlled, and the carbon nanocomposite is re-split to a certain size at a level where the graphite structure is not collapsed by using a jet mill method. By mechanical treatment, it is possible to produce a high-performance high-density negative electrode material having an improved energy density than the carbon nanocomposite prepared earlier.

The interplanar spacing (d 002 ) of the carbon hexagonal net surface of the Fe-Ag-carbon nanofiber composite prepared as described above was 0.3370 nm, which shows a high graphitization degree close to that of natural graphite. Since the tap density was 0.4 ~ 0.75 g / cc was shown. When the angle formed by the direction axis between the fiber axis and the carbon mesh surface is δ, δ has a range of 0 ° to 70 °, which means that the carbon nanofibers produced according to the present invention are not merely tubular, but are plate-shaped and fish-like. It is shown that the bone, lamellar cup, accordion, and these can have a variety of complex, connected nanostructures.

Example 3 Preparation of Carbon Nanocomposites with Fe-Si Composites

Example 4 Discharge Capacity Measurement Experiment of Carbon Nanocomposite According to Example 1

A 2032 type coin cell was prepared using the carbon nanocomposite prepared in Example 1, and charged and discharged at a rate of 0.2 C. The discharge capacity obtained at this time was 480 mAh / g, which is much higher than 372 mAh / g, which is a theoretical capacity of natural graphite. A constant current charge / discharge curve is shown in FIG. 2. When using the carbon nanocomposite according to the present invention from Figure 2 0.5 V vs. It was also confirmed that the activity below Li / Li + (standard Li potential) is excellent.

Example 5 Discharge Capacity Measurement Experiment after Mechanical Treatment of Carbon Nanocomposite According to Example 2

After HIP treatment of the carbon nanocomposite prepared in Example 2 (50 ℃ ~ 800 ℃), the carbon structure was pulverized with a Jet Mill in a range that does not collapse.

Tap density was 1.05 g / cc, and the capacity of 550 mAh / g was measured in the same manner as in Example 4.

Through this experiment, it can be seen that the negative electrode active material characteristics of the carbon nanocomposite according to the present invention is further improved when subjected to mechanical treatment.

Since the carbon nanocomposite provided according to the present invention is manufactured at 1000 ° C. or less, metal carbides and the like are not produced as compared with the conventional method, and thus the composite material dispersed and composite may remain in an electrochemical activity state. Because nanocrystalline microporous highly crystalline carbon nanofibers and carbon nanotubes are used as the graphite material source, these voids act as a buffer against volume change as the charge and discharge are repeated, thereby changing the volume during charge and discharge. When the carbon nanocomposite according to the present invention is applied to a battery having a small energy level (about 2%) and a high energy density, it is possible to suppress the distortion of the battery. In particular, the carbon nanocomposite provided in accordance with the present invention, unlike the prior art, maintains a high crystal structure of graphite and has an electrochemical activity such that the composite material is evenly dispersed in the bulk, and is composited on a nano scale. As a result, several hundred nanometers of graphite crystals and metal nanoparticles were dispersed and compounded while maintaining their respective structures, so that a specific amount of 0.5 V (Li / Li + ) or less could exceed the theoretical capacity of graphite-based materials. .
