Abstract

PURPOSE:To satisfactorily clean a latent image carrier without damaging its surface by providing a cleaning roll which is arranged to be brought into contact with the latent image carrier and a cleaning blade which is arranged to be brought into contact with the latent image carrier below said cleaning roll. CONSTITUTION:The remaining developer of a transfer image on a latent image carrier 10 is primarily swept off softly to the latent image carrier 10 by a cleaning roll 34, namely, a rotating roll. The remaining developer which cannot be scraped neither removed by the cleaning roll 34 is finally swept off by a cleaning blade 32. In this case, the quantity of carrier which is interposed between the cleaning blade 32 and the latent image carrier 10 and rubs against the carrier 10 is considerably reduced because the quantity of the residual developer to be swept off is reduced by primary cleaning of the cleaning roll 34, and as the result, the cleaning blade 32 is pressed to the carrier 10 with a sufficient force to satisfactorily clean the carrier 10 without damaging its surface.
