Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high purity metallic Te at a low cost by melting electromelted and deposited Te by heating in a nonreducing crucible under special conditions to allow impurities to rise as dross and by separating the dross. CONSTITUTION:Electromelted and deposited Te is charged into a nonreducing crucible optionally in combination with Te contg. impurities. The charged Te is melted by heating to 500-600 deg.C after holding at a temp. close to the m.p. of Te (452+ or -10 deg.C) in the air for a short time of >=40min to allow impurities to rise as dross. A flux such as NaNO3 is then added by 5-10wt.% of the amt. of the Te and the dross is absorbed in the flux and separated.
