However, the anti-disturbance light characteristics obtained as a result of taking these measures cannot be said to be sufficient considering the added cost, especially in the case of devices where malfunction can have a fatal effect. It has been desired to realize a sensor that operates more reliably and has better sensitivity.

This project was developed in view of the above-mentioned circumstances, and includes an optical fiber cable that optically connects the light emitting element and the light receiving element to the through hole 13A provided in the presser foot of the sewing machine. By covering the light with a cover or the like, the disturbance light characteristics are significantly improved.

The sensor for a sewing machine that detects the presence or absence of fabric according to the present invention will be described below. Its configuration is such that one open end 2A of the optical fiber cable 2 is connected to a light emitting element IA for emitting infrared rays, visible light, etc. and a light receiving element 1B, respectively. The other open end 2B of each of the optical fiber cables 2 is made to face the through hole 13A provided in the presser foot 13 of the sewing machine, and these are covered with a cap 14. Features.

To attach the optical sensor according to the present invention shown in the figure, a through hole 13A is provided at an appropriate location such as the presser foot 13, and one end of the optical fiber cable 2 is connected through the hole 13A with the open side facing the object to be detected (the fabric in the case of the illustrated embodiment). Attach it facing the direction.

When the fabric is inserted into the presser foot 13 from the fabric guide plate 11, the tip of the fabric blocks the optical axis emitted from the tip of the optical fiber cable 2, the sewing machine starts, and conversely, the fabric is fed after sewing. When it runs out, the main sensor will work and the sewing machine will stop.

In this case, the tip of the optical fiber cable faces the detected part, so that the tip of the optical fiber cable can be used as the sensor itself, so it can be installed in places where conventional sensors could not be installed due to restrictions due to the shape of the sensor body. The cable can be installed without any problems, and since the cable itself has a small diameter and can be fixed close to the detected part, it is easy to eliminate the influence of ambient light.

Furthermore, conventional sensors take some kind of focusing means to narrow the beam width, but in this case, no matter what the light source is, the beam width is determined by the cable diameter, and the tip of the cable is close to the detected area. does not require any special focusing means.

In addition, since this method relies only on the optical fiber cable for disturbance light characteristics, beams, etc. that are directly related to the performance of the sensor, there is no need to specifically improve the performance of the sensor itself, and it is equivalent to the conventional method. Performance can be provided at low cost.
