Abstract

PURPOSE:To allow plugs of simple structure to be coupled together to face each other while matched and positioned accurately by linking both side walls having plug guide grooves in internal surfaces to each other through a leaf spring, and pressing them outward by plugs when those plugs are attached. CONSTITUTION:In plugs 12 to be coupled, plural optical fibers 20 are mebedded. On both side surfaces of each plug 12, semicircube cylindrical reference surfaces 19 are formed. An adapter 11 into which both plugs 12 are inserted consists of both side walls 16 and a leaf spring 18 for connecting both side walls 16 and has guide grooves for guiding the reference surfaces 19 of the plugs 12 in the internal surface. The leaf spring 18 of the adapter 11 is curved when no plug 12 is inserted and the actual width of the adapter 11 is less than the width Wp of the plugs 12. Therefore, the reference surfaces 19 of the plugs 12 are held while pressed elastically against the internal surfaces of the guide grooves 17.
