Abstract

PURPOSE: A specific arylonitrile polymer is used as the sheath component and a polymer mixture containing a different polymer that is phase-separated from an acrylonitrile polymer is used as the core component to produce the titled wool-like iber with high thermal dimension stability and creep retention.
CONSTITUTION: (A) An acrylonitrile polymer containing at least 70wt% of acrylonitrile is mixed with a solvent to use as the core component dope and (B) (a) 70W 97pts.wt. of an acrylonitrile polymer containing at least 70wt% of acrylonitrile and (b) 30W3pts. of a different polymer that is soluble in the solvent used in the spinning dope and incompatible to component a such as cyanoethylcellulose are mixed with a solvent to prepare the dope for the core component. Then, both of the dopes A and B is used to effect conjugate spinning with a sheath-core conjugate spinneret, drawn in hot water, dried, subjected to the secondary drawing and heat-set to produce the objective fiber in which the component a3 is microscopically dispersed in the core component 1 and b2 and forms islands continuing in the fiber-axis direction of the core.
