Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the accumulation of impurities, e.g., peroxides, etc., formed from the catalytic actions of activated carbon in recovered solvent by subjecting desorbed vapors to an alkaline washing process in the recovery of ketonic solvents by means of activated carbon.
CONSTITUTION: A gas to be treated, containing the ketonic solvents is directed through the duct 8 into an adsorption tank 1 where the solvent is adsorbed and removed, whereas the gas containing no solvents is discharged out of a discharge pipe 9 to the air. After adsorption for a certain time, water vapor is introduced into the adsorption tank 1 through the conduit 10 for desorption of the solvent, and the desorbed vapors of a high temperature are introduced into the bottom of an alkaline washing tower 2 where they are brought into counterwise contact with a high-temperature alkaline solution supplied from a pipe 19 by a pump 22 to remove impurities. Then, the vapors give their latent heat to the circulating alkaline solution, then cooled by condensation in a cooler 4, and then directed to a decanter 5 where it is separated into a solvent layer and a water layer. The solvent layer is sent to a distilling column through a pipe 16 and recovered.
