Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the heat exchange efficiency, by changing the radius of curvature of a coil so that some portions of the coil are located near an inner shell and the other portions adjacent to the formers are located near an outer shell.
CONSTITUTION: The vertical coil 1 is curved at different radii alternately so that its portions of major radius of curvature are located near the outer shell and the portions of minor radius of curvature are located near the inner shell. As a result, a fluid rapidly flows on the outside surface of the coil without staying in the opening between the coil and the inner shell. Therefore, the effective heat transfer surface area of the coil is increased, namely, the heat exchange efficiency is raised.
