Abstract

PURPOSE: To automatically measure the surface tension in a continuous manner through the accurate time measurement by an electronic circuit and with the use of liquid droplet detecting means, while counting the number of the liquid droplets falling within a unit time, by making use of the fact that the falling speed of the liquid droplets is inversely proportional to the surface potential.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid to be metered is continuously reserved in a constant pressure bath 10 by a sampling pump 11 while having its level held at a constant by the action of an over-flow hole 103. The liquid is then allowed to fall from the gap between a valve ball 14 and a guide 104 and from a capillary 152 of a pippet 15 so that its droplets are detected by a sensor 18 which is composed of a projector 181 and a light receiving device 182. The detected signals are converted into a single pulse signal by a waveform shaping circuit 20. A standard time signal generating circuit 23 generates a signal corresponding to the time of 60/n when the unit time is assumed to be 60 seconds. A multiplying circuit 21 multiplies the aforementioned pulse signal by n the times to convert the same into the number of droplets per unit time. In response to time signal from the circuit 23, a gate 22 is opened and closed, and a counter 27 counts the number of the droplets per unit time or 60 seconds so that the content is fed to a display device 24, a recording device 25 and a warning device 26.
