Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture yellow iron oxide in a high yield without deteriorating the quality by carrying out oxidation reaction of an aqueous soln. contg. ferrous sulfate at the saturation solubility or more, that is, at a state where a solid phase is present.
CONSTITUTION: Ferrous sulfate is added to an aqueous soln. to the solubility or more, that is, until a solid phase coexists in the system. This soln. is adjusted to pH 3W7. As the alkali source ammonia, ammonium hydroxide, ammonium carbonate, ammonium hydrogencarbonate or the like is used, and an alkali source of the same kind is used in the following oxidation process. Sulfate is coexsistent preferably in the form of ammonium sulfate, and it is 2W4 times as much as ferrous sulfate by mol. The soln. is then heated to 40W80°C, and by blowing oxygen-contg. gas, grain forming reaction is carried out.
