Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture a horizontal thin-film magnetic head of small magnetic core resistance by forming an upper magnetic layer by working a bolster material arranged previously under a gap part in the manufacture of the magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:On substrate 6, lower magnetic layer 7 is formed and on it, conductor coil 9 is formed with insulating layer 8 interposed. Further, bolster material 10 is provided on it, upper magnetic layer 13 with gap 12 is formed with insulating layer 11 interposed, and the projecting part (the upper part of bolster material 10) of magnetic layer 13 is worked by lapping to reduce its thickness. Therefore, since the above-mentioned head has the magnetic layer thinned near the gap part. The leakage of magnetic flux of the gap part lessens and the overall magnetic resistance of the core decreases.
