Abstract
PURPOSE:To prepare the sintered cake of a low carbon iron powder in a good yield by a method wherein an iron powder is decarburized by a humidified hydrogen containing gas while conveyed by a belt conveyor through a furnace and, subsequently, the oxygen within an iron powder is removed by a dehumidified hydrogen containing gas. CONSTITUTION:A steel strip 9 is driven within a londitutinal furnace and a stock iron powder placed thereon is conveyed. Plural gas blowing pipes 4 are provided to a ceiling of furnace and a temp. adjusting radiant tube 12, 12' is provided within a furnace. A humidified hydrogen containing gas is blowing in from a gas blowing pipe 4 in a stock iron powder introducing side in a furnace to decarburize an iron powder 10 and a low carbon product is obtained. Subsequently, a dehumidified hydrogen containing gas is blown in a product discharge side to remove the oxygen contained in an iron powder and a sintered cake is produced. In this case, a distance h from a leading end of a gas blowing pipe 4 to a surface of an iron powder 10 is adjusted to 50-200mm and, by lengthening the said distance in a preceding procedure as well as shortening in a succeeding procedure, the removal of a gas generated by a decarburizing reaction is rapidly carried out and the lowering of a yield caused to the scattering of an iron powder is prevented.
