Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable assured operation with a simple structure by a method wherein a rod having a tapered surface to get into close contact with the inside peripheral surface of a tapered central hole of a ring member fitted in a cylindrical portion is inserted in the hole, and a gap is formed between a flange surface formed at one end of the rod and the end face of the ring member.
CONSTITUTION: As wear amount of linings of brake shoes 4 increases, the extension amount of a sliding portion 1a of a strut increases. As a result, the end face of a ring member 6 comes into contact with that of a flange portion 2b, and the member 6 moves leftward inside the inside peripheral surface 5a of a cylindrical portion as the portion 1a extends. Therefore, when the right and left brake shoes 4 area returned to their original positions after release of braking, the inside peripheral surface of a central hole 6a comes into close contact with the outside peripheral surface of a rod end portion 2a before the portion 1a contracts to its original length, so that the member 6 cuts in between the surface 5a and the outside peripheral surface of the portion 2a just like a wedge to immobilize the portion 1a, thereby adjusting the gap by the reduced contraction amount.
