Abstract
PURPOSE: The reaction between carbon monoxide, an alcohol containing a catalyst, and a nitrite ester is conducted in a specific circulating process containing a system for dehydration of the reaction mixture and another system for distillation purification to produce continuously an oxalic diester used for analytical reagents and solvents.
CONSTITUTION: The catalytic reaction under pressure is conduced in reactor 1 by supplying a gas containing carbon monoxide and oxygen and a mixture of an alcohol containing a metal catalyst of platinum group and nitrite ester to form a reaction mixture containing an oxalic diester. Then the reaction mixture is introduced into dehydrator 2 where water formed by dehydration is distilled off in the form of azeotropic mixture. A part of the dehydration mixture is circulated to reactor 1 and the rest is sent to catalyst separator 5 where the catalyst is separated, and led to distillation column 6. The rest is fractionated into the part containing the nitrite ester and the alcohol, which is recycled to reactor 1, and the residue, from which the objective oxalic diester is obtained.
EFFECT: As the water formed during the reaction is removed without accumulation in the reaction system, the reaction can be continued for long periods of time.
