Abstract

PURPOSE:To secure the strength and rigidity of a module cover even without using a net besides splitting easily by forming a thin wall part producing a split at the side of an inner surface of the module cover, while bonding the whole outer area of a folded bag. CONSTITUTION:In this air bag system, strength and rigidity in a module cover 13 is secured by a bag 15 bonded to an inner surface 13a of the cover 13. In consequence, the promotion of a thin wall of this module cover 13 is made possible while molding is facilitated because the conventional net 109 is not adopted. On the other hand, the bag 15 becomes inflated in a moment when gas generated out of a gas generator 11 is fed into this bag 15 by a signal out of an impact detecting sensor S. At this time, the module cover 13 is easily split from a thin wall part 33 by dint of pressure at time of the bag 15 being inflated while it is left bonded on an outer circumferential surface of the bag 15 intact so that it is not scattered at all, thus such a fear as infliction an injury on a person will not occur at all.

The outline of an airbag is as shown in FIG. 4, for example, in an emergency such as a collision, when a gas generator 101 is activated by a signal from an impact detection sensor (not shown), gas is sent into a folded bag 103. At this time, the module cover 105 is torn from the thin wall portion 107 due to the pressure when the bag 103 is inflated, and the bag 103 is instantly inflated. As a result, the kinetic energy of the occupant moving forward is absorbed and the occupant is protected.

(Problems to be Solved by the Invention) As described above, since the module cover 105 with the bag 103 folded inside functions as a cover for the bag 103, it is required to have a specified strength and rigidity. In this case, considering that the module cover 105 can be easily torn and the bag 103 can inflate smoothly, it is desirable that the module cover 105 be thinner, but on the other hand, problems such as insufficient strength and rigidity may occur.

For this purpose, the wall thickness is made as thin as possible and a synthetic resin net 109 is insert-molded as a reinforcing member inside to increase strength. It is difficult to position the net 109, and the means for fixing the net 109 requires time and cost, and there are problems in terms of formability, which is one of the factors that increase the cost.

Further, even if the means for fixing the net 109 is strictly controlled, there is a possibility that the position of the net 109 may shift inward or outward, making it difficult to ensure stable quality.

[Structure of the invention] In order to achieve the above object, the present invention includes a module cover fixed to a base plate, and a module cover fixed to the base plate. The module cover includes a bag that is folded inward and fixedly supported by the base plate, and a gas generator that sends gas into the bag in response to a signal from an impact detection sensor, and a thin wall part that creates a tear on the inner surface of the module cover. The entire outside area of the formed and folded bag is glued.

The gas generator 11 has a main body having a large number of discharge ports 17 filled with tablets for gas generation, and the tablets explode into gas by an ignition part 19 activated by inputting a signal from a shock detection sensor S. occurs. The firing section 19 is connected to a wire harness (not shown) extending from a connector 23 that is electrically connected to the spiral cable 21 . The impact detection switch S detects when an impact load greater than a preset value is applied to the vehicle body and outputs a signal, and is electrically connected to the spiral cable 21. Therefore, the signal electricity from the impact detection sensor S is manually supplied to the ignition unit 19 via the connector 23.

[Effects of the Invention] As described above, according to the airbag device of the present invention, strength and rigidity of the module cover can be ensured by the bag adhered to the inner surface, so a reinforcing net is not required. Therefore, the module cover can be easily molded, which is very favorable in terms of moldability. In addition, when the bag expands, the module cover is easily torn due to its thin walls, and since it is bonded, it can prevent harmful scattering.
