Description

The present invention relates to a catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils and a method for producing carbon nanocoils.

Conventionally, carbon nanotubes and carbon nanocoils have been widely used as carbon nanostructures. In particular, carbon nanocoils are expected to be used as high-performance electromagnetic wave absorbing materials because they are conductive and have a coil shape, and because they are on the order of nanometers, they can be used as springs and actuators for micromachines. It is also attracting attention as a material.

Regarding the method for producing carbon nanotubes, a metal catalyst such as Fe, Co, Ni or the like was first prepared into fine powder by Amelinks in 1994, and the vicinity of the metal catalyst was heated to 600 ° C. to 700 ° C. Non-Patent Document 1 reports a method for producing a carbon nanocoil by flowing a gas such as acetylene so as to come into contact with the substrate.

However, this method has produced carbon products having various shapes such as a linear shape, a curved shape, and a coil shape having a graphite structure. Since then, carbon nanocoils, which are coiled carbon products, have a high production rate, and many reports have been made on industrially usable catalysts, production methods, and the like.

In addition, as a method for producing the carbon nanostructure, a chemical vapor deposition method (CVD method, chemical vapor deposition) in which a source gas such as hydrocarbon is decomposed to grow a target material, or a form of the above-described CVD method is used. A catalytic chemical vapor deposition method (CCVD method, in which a target substance is grown using a catalyst) is widely used.

Non-Patent Document 2 discloses a method of obtaining carbon nanostructures at a temperature of 700 ° C. using acetylene as a raw material using a catalyst in which iron or cobalt is formed on silica. Non-Patent Document 3 discloses a method of obtaining carbon nanotubes at a temperature of 700 ° C. using ethylene as a raw material using a catalyst in which iron nitrate is formed on alumina.

However, the conventional method for producing a carbon nanostructure has a problem that a carbon nanocoil having high crystallinity and a small coil diameter cannot be obtained efficiently.

Specifically, when a carbon nanocoil having a small coil diameter is to be obtained by the carbon nanostructure manufacturing method disclosed in Non-Patent Documents 1 to 4, carbon having a small coil diameter in the obtained carbon structure is obtained. The growth rate of nanocoils is low. Furthermore, in the manufacturing method using the catalyst disclosed in the above Non-Patent Documents 1 to 4, it is difficult to control the ratio of the obtained carbon nanocoil having a small coil diameter, and it is obtained for the carbon nanotube. The growth rate of carbon nanocoils is low.

In order to use the carbon nanocoil as an electromagnetic wave absorbing material, it is preferable that the length and density of the carbon nanocoil be within a predetermined range in order to make the product quality constant. It is very important to control the ratio of nanocoils and improve this growth rate.

The present invention has been made in view of the above-described conventional problems, and its purpose is to control the ratio of the obtained carbon nanocoils in order to obtain carbon nanocoils having high crystallinity and a small coil diameter. Another object of the present invention is to provide a carbon nanocoil production catalyst capable of producing carbon nanocoils at a high growth rate and a carbon nanotube production method using the same.

As a result of intensive studies, the inventors of the present invention have found that when producing a catalyst using iron and tin, if a fine particle catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils in which iron atoms or clusters and tin atoms or clusters are mixed can be produced, the coil diameter can be further increased. The present invention has been created based on the hypothesis that a small carbon nanocoil can be obtained more efficiently.

The catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils of the present invention is a catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils in order to solve the above problems, and comprises a thin layer mainly composed of iron and a thin layer mainly composed of tin. It consists of three or more thin layers that are alternately laminated and deposited, and the thickness of each of the thin layers is 3 nm or less.

According to said invention, since the thin layer which has a thin thickness of 3 nm or less and which has iron or tin as a main component is laminated | stacked three or more layers mutually, the structure with which an atom or cluster of iron and tin is easy to mix It has become. For this reason, it is easy to form an Fe—Sn alloy in the heating process or the CVD process, and since it is a thin film, it is easy to form fine particles containing Fe—Sn, so that the ratio of carbon nanocoils to the obtained carbon nanotubes is improved. Carbon nanocoils with high crystallinity and a small coil diameter can be obtained efficiently. Moreover, the ratio of the carbon nanocoil with a small coil diameter obtained can also be controlled by adjusting the thickness of the thin layer mainly composed of iron or tin. Specifically, the carbon nanocoil having a small coil diameter includes single-layer, double-layer, or multi-layer carbon nanocoils having an outer diameter of 150 nm or less and a wire diameter of 30 nm or less. The single-layer, double-layer, or multi-layer carbon nanocoil refers to a single-layer, double-layer, or multi-wall carbon nanotube grown in a coil shape.

In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, the catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils of the present invention is a catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils, and is characterized by having a thin layer in which at least iron and tin are co-deposited.

According to the above invention, since iron and tin are co-deposited, the catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils has a configuration in which atoms or clusters of iron and tin are easily mixed.

In the carbon nanocoil production catalyst of the present invention, the thin layer is preferably formed by vapor deposition using an arc plasma gun.

According to the arc plasma gun, even a very thin film, for example, a thin film of about 1 nm can be easily formed. By using the arc plasma gun, it is easy to stack and deposit thin films while maintaining a vacuum. Can be produced. Further, by simultaneously operating two arc plasma guns, a co-deposition layer of iron and tin can be easily produced, and the catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils can be easily produced.

In the catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils of the present invention, the atomic ratio of iron and tin is preferably in the range of 1:10 to 10: 1.

By being in the above range, the density of carbon nanocoils and the growth rate of carbon nanocoils relative to carbon nanotubes can be further improved.

Moreover, it is preferable that the catalyst for carbon nanocoil manufacture of this invention has oxidized tin.

As a result, tin contained in the thin layer of the catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils can be formed into an oxide containing Sn—O having a high melting point, preventing the evaporation of tin during the heating process, and the catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils. It is possible to provide a catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils in which the tin content in the steel is difficult to decrease.

In the catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils of the present invention, the temperature at which tin is oxidized is preferably lower than the melting point of tin.

By oxidizing tin within the above temperature range, it is possible to provide a catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils that can reduce the amount of tin components reduced from the catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils.

In the catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils of the present invention, the atomic ratio of iron and tin is preferably in the range of 1: 1 to 4: 1.

By being in the above range, the density of carbon nanocoils produced by using a catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils in which tin is oxidized, and the growth rate of carbon nanocoils relative to carbon nanotubes can be further improved. it can.

The method for producing carbon nanocoils of the present invention is a method for producing carbon nanocoils using a catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils, and chemical vapor deposition of carbon nanocoils having an outer diameter of 150 nm or less and a wire diameter of 30 nm or less. It is a manufacturing method manufactured by the method.

Since the carbon nanocoil production catalyst is used, a carbon nanocoil having a high crystallinity and a small coil diameter as described above can be obtained. Moreover, the effect which suppresses the growth of the carbon nanotube by tin can be acquired preferably, the ratio of the carbon nanocoil with respect to the carbon nanotube obtained can be improved, and a carbon nanocoil can be obtained efficiently. Furthermore, the ratio of the obtained carbon nanocoil can also be controlled by adjusting the thickness of the thin layer mainly composed of iron or tin.

As described above, the catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils of the present invention comprises three or more thin layers formed by alternately laminating and depositing thin layers mainly composed of iron and thin layers mainly composed of tin. Thus, each of the thin layers has a thickness of 3 nm or less.

The catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils of the present invention has a thin layer formed by at least iron and tin being co-deposited as described above.

Therefore, it is easy to form an Fe—Sn alloy in the heating process or the CVD process, and since it is a thin film, it is easy to form fine particles containing Fe—Sn, so that the ratio of carbon nanocoils to the obtained carbon nanotubes is improved. Carbon nanocoils with high crystallinity and a small coil diameter can be obtained efficiently. Moreover, the ratio of the carbon nanocoil with a small coil diameter obtained can also be controlled by adjusting the thickness of the thin layer which has iron or tin as a main component.

[Embodiment 1]
<Configuration of carbon nanocoil manufacturing equipment>
First, the carbon nanocoil manufacturing apparatus used in the embodiment of the present invention will be described below. First, the “carbon nanostructure” is a nano-sized substance composed of carbon atoms. For example, carbon nanotubes, carbon nanotubes with beads formed by beads on carbon nanotubes, and carbon nanobrushes with many carbon nanotubes The carbon nanotube includes a twisted carbon nano twist, a coiled carbon nano coil, and the like. In this specification, these substances are collectively referred to as “carbon nanostructures”.

FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view showing the configuration of the carbon nanocoil manufacturing apparatus 10. A heating device 2 is installed around the reaction tank 1 that is a casing of the carbon nanocoil manufacturing apparatus 10, and a reaction chamber 3 that is an isothermal region is formed inside the reaction tank 1. Further, the raw material gas and the carrier gas are supplied into the carbon nanocoil manufacturing unit 1 from the direction of the arrow and exhausted.

As the gas to be supplied, a raw material gas which is a hydrocarbon gas and a carrier gas are supplied. The source gas is a carbon source gas for growing carbon nanostructures, and not only hydrocarbons but also organic gases such as nitrogen-containing organic gas, sulfur-containing organic gas, and phosphorus-containing organic gas are widely used. Among these, hydrocarbons are preferable in the sense that no extra substance is generated.

Examples of hydrocarbons include alkane compounds such as methane and ethane, alkene compounds such as ethylene and butadiene, alkyne compounds such as acetylene, aryl hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene and styrene, aromatic hydrocarbons such as naphthalene and phenanthrene, and cyclopropane. Cycloparaffin compounds such as cyclohexane can be used. Two or more kinds of mixed hydrocarbon gases may be used, and particularly preferable are low-molecular hydrocarbons such as acetylene, arylene, ethylene, benzene, and toluene.

Examples of the carrier gas include He, Ne, Ar, N 2 , and H 2, and the carbon nanocoil manufacturing apparatus 10 uses He gas. The carrier gas is a gas that conveys the carbon compound gas, and the carbon compound gas is consumed by the reaction, whereas the carrier gas is a gas that is completely unreacted and is not consumed.

The heating device 2 is a device for heating the reaction tank 1 to keep the temperature of the reaction chamber 3 constant. A conventionally known heating device may be used as the heating device 2, and for example, an electric furnace, an infrared furnace, an IH heater, a mantle heater, a belt heater, a ribbon heater, or the like can be used.

A substrate 4 on which a catalyst 5 that is a catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils is formed is disposed at a predetermined position in the reaction chamber 3. As a material of the substrate 4, for example, a glass substrate containing quartz, a silicon wafer, a sapphire substrate, or the like can be used. The catalyst 5 will be described later in detail. The ratio of the carbon nanocoil to the carbon nanotube in the obtained carbon nanostructure differs depending on the type of the catalyst 5 that is usually used. This matter will also be described in detail later.

As the physical properties such as the length and density of the carbon nanocoil have preferable values as appropriate according to products used such as an electron gun and a composite film of a flat display, it is difficult to specify the preferable values. However, since it is very difficult to control the physical properties of the obtained carbon nanocoil within a desired range, if the above physical properties can be easily controlled, carbon nanocoils can be produced with stable quality. be able to.

The reaction chamber 3 is heated to a predetermined temperature by the heating device 2. The heating temperature may be adjusted to be equal to or higher than the minimum temperature at which the raw material gas is decomposed by the catalyst. Therefore, the heating temperature is appropriately adjusted depending on the type of catalyst and the type of carbon compound gas. Moreover, it adjusts suitably also according to the kind of CVD method to be used, for example, thermal CVD, plasma CVD.

The raw material gas and the carrier gas remaining in the reaction chamber 3 without being used for the reaction are moved downstream in the direction of the arrow. Although not shown, the remaining raw material gas and carrier gas can be moved downstream in the direction of the arrow. A vacuum pump can be illustrated as a decompression device. As a result, a pressure difference can be generated between the inside of the reaction chamber 3 and the pressure reducing device side, and the remaining source gas and carrier gas can be discharged to the outside of the reaction chamber 3.

<Catalyst for carbon nanocoil production>
The catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils according to the present embodiment is composed of three or more thin layers formed by alternately laminating and depositing thin layers mainly composed of iron and thin layers mainly composed of tin, Each of the thin layers has a thickness of 3 nm or less.

FIG. 2 is a more detailed sectional view showing the catalyst 5. As shown in the figure, the catalyst 5 has an eight-layer structure in which a thin layer 5a containing iron as a main component and a thin layer 5b containing tin as a main component are connected to each other. The thin layer 5a contains iron as a main component and contains 99% or more of iron with respect to the thin layer 5a. Moreover, the thin layer 5b has tin as a main component, and contains 99% or more of tin with respect to the thin layer 5b. As described above, since the thin laminated film of tin and iron has the above-described configuration, an Fe—Sn alloy can be easily formed in the heating process or the CVD process, and since it is a thin film, fine particles containing Fe—Sn are formed. Therefore, it is suitable for efficiently obtaining carbon nanocoils having high crystallinity and a small coil diameter.

And high the crystallinity, as an example, D band that reflects case, the G band and defects or amorphous phase which reflects graphite phase (around 1500cm -1 ~1600cm -1) measuring the carbon nano coils in Raman spectra ( Two large peaks of 1300 cm −1 to 1400 cm −1 are observed. The ratio of the peak values of the G band and D band is referred to as the G / D ratio. It can be said that the larger the G / D ratio, the higher the crystallinity. The G / D ratio of carbon nanotubes produced by CVD is greater than 0.9. The G / D ratio of the highly crystalline carbon nanocoil is 0.9 or more. Further, when the carbon nanocoil has crystallinity, a diffraction pattern showing the (002) plane of graphite is clearly observed in the electron diffraction of the sample.

Moreover, although it is difficult to clearly define a carbon nanocoil having a small coil diameter, it can be said to specifically indicate a carbon nanocoil having an outer diameter of 150 nm or less and a wire diameter of 30 nm or less. If it is said dimension, like a carbon nanotube, when the wire diameter will be 30 nm or more, the structure of the graphene which comprises a carbon nano coil will be easily disturbed, and the tendency to become an amorphous structure conversely will be shown. When the carbon nanocoil has a tendency of an amorphous structure, the crystallinity is lowered and the physical properties such as conductivity may be lowered.

The catalyst 5 has eight layers as shown in the figure. However, the catalyst 5 may be three layers or more, and is not limited to three layers. It is more preferable that the number of layers is larger. For example, an eight-layer structure as in this embodiment is more preferable. When the catalyst is formed of less than three layers, for example, two layers, it becomes difficult to mix iron atoms or clusters and tin atoms or clusters after forming the thin layers 5a and 5b. It is not preferable.

The thickness of each of the thin layer 5a and the thin layer 5b may be 3 nm or less, but from the viewpoint of the catalytic activity of the catalyst 5, it is preferably one atomic layer or more.
Further, it is more preferable that the thickness of each of the thin layer 5a and the thin layer 5b is 2 nm or less because a structure in which iron atoms or clusters and tin atoms or clusters are more easily mixed can be obtained.

The atomic ratio of iron and tin contained in the thin layer 5a and the thin layer 5b can be adjusted mainly by adjusting the film thickness. The atomic ratio of the iron and tin is preferably in the range of 1:10 to 10: 1. Further, when the catalyst 5 is oxidized as will be described later, the atomic ratio of iron and tin is more preferably in the range of 1: 5 to 5: 1, and 1: 1 to 4 Particularly preferred is a range of up to 1. By being in said range, the density of the carbon nanocoil obtained and the growth rate of the carbon nanocoil with respect to a carbon nanotube can be improved more.

As a method for producing the catalyst 5, a physical vapor deposition method (PVD method, Physical Vapor Deposition) and a chemical vapor deposition method (CVD method, Chemical Vapor Deposition) can be used as a vapor phase method. The CVD method is also called a chemical vapor deposition method.

PVD methods include vacuum deposition, electron beam deposition, laser ablation, molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), reactive deposition, ion plating, cluster ion beam, glow discharge sputtering, ion beam sputtering, reactive sputtering, etc. There is. Also in the MBE method, MOMBE using an organometallic raw material (MO, Metal Organic), actinic beam epitaxy (CBE), gas source epitaxy (GSE, Gas Source Epitaxy) can be used.

Examples of the CVD method include thermal CVD, metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD), RF plasma CVD, ECR plasma CVD, photo CVD, laser CVD, and mercury sensitization.

Among these, it is particularly preferable to form the catalyst 5 using an arc plasma gun. By forming the thin layer by vapor deposition using an arc plasma gun, it is possible to easily form a very good thin film, for example, a thin film having a thickness of about 1 nm in a high vacuum. It is because it can produce.

Although the catalyst 5 contains tin, tin has a melting point as low as about 232 ° C. and may vaporize under temperature conditions when obtaining carbon nanocoils. For this reason, it is preferable that the catalyst 5 is annealed or the like and tin is oxidized. As a result, tin contained in the thin layer 5b of the catalyst 5 can be formed into an oxide containing Sn-O having a high melting point, preventing tin evaporation during the heating process, and reducing the tin content in the catalyst 5. Can be suppressed. As a result, the effect that it can suppress that the activity of the catalyst 5 falls can be acquired. Moreover, it is preferable that it is less than melting | fusing point of tin as temperature which oxidizes tin contained in the catalyst 5 so that it can suppress vaporization of tin. Thereby, the amount by which the component of tin reduces from the catalyst 5 at the time of oxidation can be reduced.

<Method for producing carbon nanostructure>
Next, a method for manufacturing the carbon nanostructure according to the present embodiment will be described. Although it does not specifically limit as an apparatus for implementing this manufacturing method, For example, the carbon nanocoil manufacturing apparatus 10 can be used.

In the carbon nanocoil manufacturing method according to the present embodiment, the above-described carbon nanocoil manufacturing catalyst according to the present embodiment is used. The carbon nanocoil manufacturing method only needs to use a catalyst for manufacturing carbon nanocoils, and a known method for manufacturing carbon nanostructures can be employed. As an example, mention may be made of a manufacturing method including a heating step of heating a catalyst and a growth step of growing a carbon nanostructure by supplying a raw material gas and a carrier gas and bringing the raw material gas into contact with the catalyst. it can. In addition, these can be used even if manufacture of a carbon nanostructure is a batch reaction, or when manufacturing continuously.

<Heating process>
In the heating step, the catalyst is heated above a minimum temperature at which the source gas is decomposed by the catalyst. When the carbon nanocoil manufacturing apparatus 10 is used, the catalyst 5 is heated by the inside of the reaction chamber 3 being heated by the heating apparatus 2. The heating temperature may be appropriately adjusted depending on the type of catalyst and the type of raw material gas, but can be set to 600 ° C. or higher as an example.

<Growth process>
In the growth process, the raw material gas and the carrier gas are supplied to the catalyst to grow the carbon nanostructure. Specifically, the supplied source gas is decomposed by contacting the surface of the heated catalyst. As a result, the carbon atoms decomposed and generated are deposited on the catalyst surface to form carbon nanostructures.

The pressure in the reaction chamber in the growth step is appropriately adjusted depending on the reaction conditions employed, but for example, the reaction can be performed at atmospheric pressure. In addition, the reaction time may be appropriately changed according to the reaction conditions and the desired length of the carbon nanocoil.

When the carbon nanocoil manufacturing apparatus 10 is used, the carbon nanocoil 6 can be grown by supplying the source gas and the carrier gas and bringing the catalyst 5 and the source gas into contact in the reaction chamber 3.

[Embodiment 2]
The following will describe another embodiment according to the present invention with reference to FIG. Configurations other than those described in the present embodiment are the same as those in the first embodiment. For convenience of explanation, members having the same functions as those shown in the drawings of Embodiment 1 are given the same reference numerals and explanation thereof is omitted.

<Catalyst for carbon nano production>
In this Embodiment, although the structure of the catalyst for carbon nanocoil manufacture differs, the carbon nanocoil manufacturing apparatus 10 shown in FIG. 1, and the manufacturing method of the carbon nanocoil in Embodiment 1 are employable.

FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view showing the catalyst 5 c supported on the substrate 4. Unlike the catalyst 5 shown in FIG. 2, the catalyst 5 c according to the present embodiment does not have a laminated structure but has a thin layer in which at least iron and tin are co-deposited. As a thin layer component, iron and tin have a ratio in the range of atomic ratios of 1:10 to 10: 1. Moreover, 99% or more of iron and tin are contained with respect to the total amount of the thin layer.

The thickness of the catalyst 5c is not particularly limited, but is preferably 0.5 nm or more and 10 nm or less from the viewpoint of catalyst activity.

By co-depositing the catalyst 5c as described above, the ratio of the obtained carbon nanocoils can be controlled, and carbon nanocoils can be produced at a high growth rate. This is presumably because the catalyst 5 is formed by co-evaporation, so that iron atoms or clusters and tin atoms or clusters contained in the catalyst 5c can be mixed in a uniform state.

Note that, as described in the first embodiment, the preferable ratio of the number of atoms of iron and tin and the point that tin can be suppressed from being vaporized by oxidation of the catalyst 5c. The same applies to the point that it is preferable to use an arc plasma gun as a method for producing the catalyst.

The atomic ratio of iron and tin contained in the catalyst 5c can be adjusted by adjusting the deposition rate and time or the number of discharges. The atomic ratio of the iron and tin is preferably in the range of 1:10 to 10: 1. Moreover, when the catalyst 5c is oxidized, the atomic ratio of the iron and tin is more preferably in the range of 1: 1 to 4: 1. By being in said range, the density of the carbon nanocoil obtained and the growth rate of the carbon nanocoil with respect to a carbon nanotube can be improved more. A carbon nanocoil can be manufactured using the catalyst 5c using a conventionally known carbon nanocoil manufacturing method.

The present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, and various modifications can be made within the scope of the claims, and the technical means disclosed in different embodiments can be appropriately combined. Such embodiments are also included in the technical scope of the present invention.

Below, the Example which manufactured carbon nanocoil using the catalyst for carbon nanocoil manufacture mentioned above is described. The catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils was produced using an arc plasma gun APG-1000 (manufactured by ULVAC Corporation). Further, the obtained carbon nanocoil (carbon nanostructure) was photographed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) (Hitachi S-4300), and the carbon nanocoil diameter and the coil wire diameter were measured using a scanning electron microscope ( SEM) (Hitachi S-4300), and the density can be measured and converted by using a precision balance.

[Example 1]
The catalyst 5 laminated and vapor-deposited on 8 layers shown in FIG. 2 was used. The formation of the catalyst 5 is performed using an arc plasma gun. The thickness of the thin layer 5a mainly composed of iron is 1 nm, and the thickness of the thin layer 5b mainly composed of tin is 2 nm.

The catalyst 5 was installed in the carbon nanocoil manufacturing apparatus 10, and the temperature inside the reaction chamber 3 was raised to 700 ° C. by the heating apparatus 2. Thereafter, acetylene and helium having a flow rate of 30 cc / min (sccm): 230 cc / min (sccm) were supplied to the reaction chamber 3. In this state, the growth reaction was performed for 10 minutes, the reaction chamber 3 was air-cooled, and the carbon nanocoil Ia was obtained.

An SEM photograph of the obtained carbon nanocoil Ia is shown in FIG. The resulting density of the carbon nano coils I was 3.00 × 10 9 present / cm 2.

[Comparative Example 1]
In Example 1, a catalyst 50 deposited in two layers as shown in FIG. 4 was used as the catalyst. The formation of the catalyst is performed using an arc plasma gun. The thickness of the thin layer 50a containing iron as a main component is 4 nm, and the thickness of the thin layer 50b containing tin as a main component is 8 nm.

The conditions other than using the catalyst 50 were the same as in Example 1. An SEM photograph of the obtained carbon nanocoil II is shown in FIG. The density of the obtained carbon nanocoil II was 2.32 × 10 9 wires / cm 2 .

The carbon nanocoil Ia obtained in Example 1 was 30% higher in density than the carbon nanocoil II. From the results of Example 1 and Comparative Example 1, as the catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils, the carbon nanocoil is more likely to be mixed with iron or tin atoms or clusters in the 8-layer structure like catalyst 5. It turns out that it is advantageous to manufacture.

[Example 2]
In Example 2, the catalyst 15 and the catalyst 25 in which the ratio of the thin layer 5a and the thin layer 5b constituting the catalyst 5 were changed were produced. The catalyst 15 and the catalyst 25 have an eight-layer structure like the catalyst 5, and the thin layer 5a and the thin layer 5b are laminated with each other.

In the catalyst 15, the thicknesses of the thin layer 5a mainly composed of iron and the thin layer 5b mainly composed of tin of the catalyst 5 are 0.5 nm and 2 nm, respectively. As the atomic ratio, the ratio of iron: tin is about 1: 2. On the other hand, the thickness of the thin layer 5a and the thin layer 5b of the catalyst 25 is 0.25 nm and 2 nm, respectively. As the atomic ratio, the ratio of iron: tin is about 1: 4.

Carbon nanocoils were produced under the same conditions as in Example 1 except that Catalyst 5, Catalyst 15, and Catalyst 25 were used and the catalyst was changed. FIG. 7 shows SEM photographs of the obtained carbon nanocoils Ia, Ib, and Ic. In the figure, CNC is an abbreviation for carbon nanotube, and CNT is an abbreviation for carbon nanocoil. As shown in the figure, the density of carbon nanotubes decreases as the atomic ratio of tin to iron increases.

It was also confirmed that the ratio of carbon nanocoils to carbon nanotubes increased as the atomic ratio of tin to iron increased. This is presumably because excess Sn can suppress the growth of carbon nanotubes.

Example 3
In Example 3, the carbon nanocoil production catalyst was oxidized to produce carbon nanocoils. As the catalyst, the catalyst 25 produced in Example 2 was used. First, the catalyst 25 was annealed in air at 120 ° C. for 12 hours using a muffle furnace.

Carbon nanocoils were manufactured under the conditions of Example 1 except that the catalyst 25 was changed using the catalyst 25 not subjected to the annealing treatment and the catalyst 25 subjected to the annealing treatment. FIG. 8 shows an SEM photograph of the obtained carbon nanocoil IIIa, and FIG. 9 shows an SEM photograph of the carbon nanocoil IIIb.

Comparing FIG. 8 and FIG. 9, it is clear that more carbon nanocoils are generated in the carbon nanocoil IIIb. When the catalyst 25 was annealed, almost no carbon nanotube growth was observed as shown in FIG. From this, it is speculated that tin was oxidized and became stable tin oxide, whereby the vaporization of tin could be suppressed and the growth of carbon nanotubes could be efficiently suppressed.

Example 4
In Example 4, the growth process of the carbon nanocoil in the course of the reaction was observed. As the catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils, the catalyst 35 in which the thin layer 5a and the thin layer 5b were both 2 nm in the catalyst 5 was used. The atomic ratio of iron: tin in catalyst 35 is about 2: 1. Furthermore, in order to oxidize this catalyst 35, annealing treatment was performed under the same conditions as in Example 3. Note that silicon dioxide was used as the substrate of the catalyst 35.

The production conditions of the carbon nanocoil were such that acetylene as a raw material gas was supplied to the catalyst 35 at a flow rate of 30 cc / min (sccm) and helium at a flow rate of 230 cc / min. Thereafter, the source gas was heated to 700 ° C. SEM photographs of carbon nanocoils grown after 1 minute, 3 minutes, and 15 minutes from the start of the reaction in which the temperature of the source gas was raised to 700 ° C. are shown in FIGS.

FIGS. 10A to 10C show carbon nanocoils one minute after the start of the reaction. Figure (c) is a photograph taken at a magnification of 200 times that of Figures (a) and (b). From these figures, it can be seen that carbon nanocoils having a coil diameter of about 20 nm to 60 nm are growing.

FIGS. 11A to 11C show carbon nanocoils 3 minutes after the start of the reaction. As shown in FIGS. (A) to (c), it was observed that the carbon nanocoil grew and its length was about 1 μm or more. The diameter of the carbon nanocoil was about 20 nm. Thus, it was observed that carbon nanocoils grew more than 1 minute after the start of the reaction.

FIGS. 12A to 12C show carbon nanocoils 15 minutes after the start of the reaction. From these figures, it can be seen that carbon nanotubes containing brush-like carbon nanocoils are growing. FIG. 1A is an enlarged SEM photograph of carbon nanocoils remaining on the substrate after the brush-like carbon nanotubes grown were picked up with tweezers. As shown in the figure (a), it was observed that the carbon nanocoils were grown to a length of about 7 μm. Further, FIG. (B) is an SEM photograph taken of the tip of the brush-like carbon nanocoil shown in FIG. (A). After 15 minutes from the start of the reaction, it was clearly observed that many carbon nanocoils were grown as shown in FIG.

FIGS. 13A to 13C are SEM photographs showing carbon nanocoils observed 15 minutes after the start of the reaction in FIG. Of the carbon nanocoils shown in FIG. 1A, the arrow A1 indicates the bottom and the arrow A2 indicates the tip. Fig. (B) is a diagram showing in detail the bottom of the carbon nanocoil indicated by the arrow A1 in Fig. (A). Moreover, (FIG. (C) is a figure which shows in detail the front-end | tip part of the carbon nano coil which arrow A1 in FIG. (A) shows. The bottom part of the carbon nano coil shown by arrow B in FIG. The catalyst nanoparticle having a diameter of about 50 nm is present together with the bottom of the carbon nanocoil elsewhere on the same substrate indicated by arrow C in c), and acetylene is sequentially decomposed at the bottom of the carbon nanocoil. Carbon nanocoils are expected to grow.

Example 5
In Example 5, carbon nanocoils were produced using the catalyst 5c co-deposited as shown in FIG. 3 as the catalyst for producing carbon nanocoils. The catalyst 5 used in this example was produced by using an arc plasma gun in which the ratio of iron and tin was changed to 2 nm, 4 nm, and 8 nm, respectively, when the amount of vapor deposition was converted into a film thickness. Thereafter, the produced catalyst was annealed at 150 ° C. for 12 hours using a muffle furnace to oxidize the catalyst. The temperature in the annealing treatment is set to a value lower than the melting point of tin. As the substrate 4, a silicon substrate provided with a silicon dioxide film was used.

Carbon nanocoils were manufactured under the same conditions as in Example 4 except that the catalyst 5c was used. The SEM photograph of the carbon nanotube obtained using each catalyst was shown in FIG.

The SEM photograph shown in the figure shows carbon nanostructures obtained when the film thicknesses of iron and tin are adjusted to 2 nm, 4 nm, and 8 nm, respectively, in the catalyst 5c. As a result of observing each photograph, it was found that in any case, the growth of carbon nanotubes was suppressed and carbon nanocoils could be produced efficiently.

In particular, in the catalyst 5c, it was found that carbon nanocoils can be preferably obtained when the converted film thickness is 4 nm for iron, 2 nm for tin, 2 nm for iron, 4 nm for tin, 2 nm for iron, and 8 nm for tin. Further, it is more preferable when iron is 4 nm and tin is 8 nm (iron: tin atomic ratio is a ratio of about 2: 1), and particularly preferable when iron is 4 nm and tin is 4 nm. It can be understood from the SEM photograph shown in the figure that carbon nanocoils can be produced.

15 and 16 show transmission electron microscope (TEM) photographs of carbon nanocoils obtained when the catalyst 5c has an equivalent film thickness of 4 nm for iron and 4 nm for tin. In FIG. 15, a diagram showing in detail the broken line portion in FIG. Further, in FIG. 16, a diagram showing in detail both broken lines in FIG. 16A corresponds to FIG. 16B and FIG. In particular, as a result of observing the drawings showing the broken line portions in FIGS. 15 and 16 in detail, the obtained carbon nanocoil has a hollow shape, and is a multilayer carbon nanocoil formed of 10 to 20 layer graphene It turned out to be. This was a carbon nanocoil with high crystallinity and a small coil diameter.

According to the present invention, it is possible to control the ratio of the obtained carbon nanocoils, and it is possible to produce carbon nanocoils with a high growth rate and high crystals and a small coil diameter.
