また1121〜1124はS/H信号をON、C−OFF信号をOFFする。

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a light emitting element driving apparatus, and more particularly to a light emitting element driving apparatus suitable for driving a laser element used as a light source in laser xerography.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In the field of laser xerography using a laser element as a light source, there is an increasing demand for higher resolution and higher speed. There is a limit to the speed (hereinafter referred to as modulation speed) at which on / off control of the driving of the laser element is performed according to the input image data. In the case where the number of laser beams is one, if the resolution in the sub-scanning direction is increased as well as the resolution in the main scanning direction, the modulation speed must be sacrificed. Therefore, the only way to increase the resolution in the sub-scanning direction without increasing the modulation speed is to increase the number of laser beams. For example, when the number of laser light beams is four, the resolution in the main scanning / sub-scanning direction can be doubled on the assumption that the modulation speed is the same as in the case of one.
[0003]
A semiconductor laser used as a light source for laser xerography includes an edge-emitting laser element (hereinafter referred to as an edge-emitting laser) having a structure in which laser light is extracted in a direction parallel to the active layer, and the laser light is perpendicular to the active layer. It is roughly classified into surface emitting laser elements (hereinafter, referred to as surface emitting lasers) having a structure that can be taken out in any direction. Conventionally, in laser xerography, an edge emitting laser is generally used as a laser light source.
[0004]
However, from the viewpoint of increasing the number of laser light beams, edge-emitting lasers are technically difficult, and structurally, surface-emitting lasers increase the number of laser light beams more than edge-emitting lasers. It is advantageous. For these reasons, in recent years, in order to meet the demand for higher resolution and higher speed in the field of laser xerography, an apparatus using a surface emitting laser capable of emitting a large number of laser light beams as a laser light source. Development is underway.
[0005]
In general, a semiconductor laser driving device uses an automatic power control (APC) circuit that detects a light amount of a semiconductor laser with a light receiver and automatically controls the light amount based on the detected light amount. When controlling the amount of light, in the case of a surface emitting laser, a part of the emitted light is separated by an optical system including a half mirror because of the structural restriction that the laser light is emitted in a direction perpendicular to the active layer. A configuration is adopted in which the amount of light of the surface emitting laser is detected by causing light to enter the light receiver as monitor light.
[0006]
As described above, when the surface emitting laser, the optical system, and the light receiving element are assembled, the positional accuracy between the elements is poor, and the monitor light can be reliably received under such a situation. Since it is necessary to set the light receiving area of the light receiver to be large, the parasitic capacitance of the light receiver becomes very large. For this reason, in a circuit system that controls the light quantity by receiving the detection output of the light receiver, the responsiveness required for the light quantity control cannot be secured unless the detection output of the light receiver is received with low impedance.
[0007]
In addition, in the case of a surface emitting laser, the output current (photocurrent) of the photoreceiver itself is very small because an optical system including a half mirror is interposed between the surface emitting laser and the photoreceiver. Is a weak current of about several μA while the received light current is about 100 μA. When such a weak photocurrent is converted into a voltage with a load having a low resistance value, the light amount detection voltage of the surface emitting laser becomes two orders of magnitude smaller than that of the edge emitting laser.
[0008]
By the way, in an image processing apparatus such as a copying machine, a printer, or a facsimile machine in which a light emitting element driving device is incorporated, a light sensor is provided slightly before the drawing start position in order to accurately determine the position for drawing an image. The drawing start position is determined based on the timing at which the light output from the crosses the optical sensor (SOS control: Start of Scan). At this time, as described in, for example,
[0009]
[0010]
On the other hand, in the case of the surface emitting laser, as described above, the laser light quantity of each light emitting element is smaller than that of the end surface laser. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the amount of laser light by simultaneously turning on a plurality of light emitting elements. For example,

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
When there are a large number of lasers such as a surface emitting laser, the light quantity set by the light quantity control for drawing is maintained and the SOS sensor (light reception provided immediately before the image generation area) is determined by the number of laser lights, although it is a skip value. The amount of light incident on the device can be controlled.
However, as the number of beams scanned by the optical sensor increases, the light emission point spreads and this time the accuracy of detecting the start position decreases. For this reason, in the operation of determining the drawing start position, it is desirable to be able to control to obtain a constant amount of light without changing the number of beams to be turned on. That is, it is most desirable to control the laser power to be constant regardless of the power at the time of image drawing at the time of SOS control.
[0013]
However, in the technique described in
[0014]
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an object of the present invention is to enable light emission that can be stably controlled without depending on the number of light emitting elements when determining the image signal transmission timing. The object is to provide an element driving device.
[0015]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
According to a first aspect of the present invention, in the light emitting element driving apparatus for controlling a plurality of light emitting elements, the light emitting element driving device is provided in common to the plurality of light emitting elements, and the amount of light emission is monitored to obtain a corresponding photocurrent. An optical receiver that outputs, a differential amplifier that generates a control signal based on a detection value corresponding to the photocurrent and a value corresponding to a target light amount, and driving control of the plurality of light emitting elements according to the control signal It has a drive part and a control means which controls the detection value given to the amplifier based on the number of light emitting elements which are selectively driven. Thereby, stable light quantity control is possible without depending on the number of light emitting elements that emit light.
[0016]
In the above apparatus, as described in
[0017]
According to a third aspect of the present invention, the control means includes an electrically controllable variable resistance element, and controls the resistance value of the variable resistance element based on the number of the selectively driven light emitting elements. You can also
[0018]
Further, according to a fourth aspect of the present invention, the control means includes a plurality of resistors and a switch that selectively connects the plurality of resistors to the differential amplifier. The switch may be controlled based on the above.
[0019]
According to a fifth aspect of the present invention, when the control means determines the image signal transmission timing for the plurality of light emitting elements, the control value given to the amplifier is set to the number of light emitting elements that are selectively driven. It is preferable to control based on this.
[0020]
According to a sixth aspect of the present invention, in the light emitting element driving apparatus for controlling the plurality of light emitting elements, the plurality of light emitting elements are controlled based on the light emission amount of the plurality of light emitting elements and a value corresponding to the target light amount. A feedback loop for controlling the light amount of the element, and means for controlling the detection value based on the number of light-emitting elements that are selectively driven when determining the image signal transmission timing for the plurality of light-emitting elements. And
Thereby, stable light quantity control is possible without depending on the number of light emitting elements.
[0021]
In this configuration, as described in claim 7, when the number of light-emitting elements to be selectively driven is n (arbitrary natural number), the means preferably multiplies the detection voltage by 1 / n. As a result, the feedback loop can always be set to a state in which only one light emitting element is driven to determine the image signal transmission timing, and another control (for example, APC control described later) using this loop can be stably performed. Will be able to do.
[0022]
According to another aspect of the present invention, a plurality of light emitting elements, a photosensitive member, an optical system for irradiating the photosensitive member with a light beam from the plurality of light emitting elements, and the plurality of light emitting elements are provided. A light emitting element driving device for driving the element, and the light emitting element driving device is an image forming apparatus configured as described above.

The light emitting elements LD2 and LD3 are turned on to scan the optical sensor. Based on the output signal of the optical sensor, a synchronization signal indicating the drawing start position is generated by a known method. The light receiver PD receives light from the light emitting elements LD2 and LD3 and outputs a photocurrent to the

The above negative feedback control is performed for each of the remaining light emitting elements LD2 to LD4, and the laser light amount of each of the light emitting elements LD1 to LD4 is made to coincide with the target light amount (image light amount set by the image light amount setting circuit 630).
[0035]
As described above, according to the first embodiment of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus for xerography using the surface light emitting diode, the laser power of the synchronization signal is reduced when the laser is set to a low light amount by the light amount control. In order to prevent the occurrence of synchronization failure, even when a plurality of lasers are turned on and controlled to the optimum laser power for synchronization in order to obtain the laser power necessary for synchronization, stable light quantity control can be performed as in the case of one beam. Make it possible. As a result, the laser power required for the synchronization can be set stably regardless of the amount of laser light in the image area, so that the number of simultaneously lit beams can be minimized and the position accuracy of the synchronization signal can be kept high. In addition, since the capacitor that samples and holds the control voltage at the APC is turned off at the time of SOS, the control start voltage at the next APC is the previous APC start voltage, so that convergence is not sacrificed.

FIG. 3 is a diagram showing a configuration of a light emitting element driving apparatus according to the third embodiment of the present invention. In the figure, the same components as those shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 are denoted by the same reference numerals.
[0040]
In FIG. 3, unlike the previous embodiment, the ground side terminal of the capacitor C112 is connected in common, and this is connected to the APC circuit 600 via a switch. Connected to the ground side during SOS, and connected to the APC circuit 600 during APC.

The configuration shown in FIG. 3 has a load 520 for the photocurrent from the photo detector PD. 1 ~ 520 4 Are provided in parallel by the number of light emitting elements, and the

In the embodiment of FIG. 3, after the APC completes the sampling and holding of the control voltage to the capacitor C112, the terminal that was the capacitor ground during SOS is commonly controlled by the APC circuit 600 to set the SOS light quantity. . According to such a configuration, since the light amount control at the time of SOS is performed with reference to the control voltage at the time of APC, the light amount of the lasers to be simultaneously emitted can be made uniform even if there is a variation in the laser characteristics. Only the laser has an effect of preventing the amount of light from increasing and causing deterioration.

Control can be realized.
[0045]
According to the third embodiment of the present invention described above, the same operational effects as those of the first and second embodiments can be obtained.

Similarly, a sample and hold circuit including the switch SWfb32 and the capacitor Cfb32 corresponds to the light emitting element LD32. Here, since there is nothing that corresponds to the capacitor C610 described in FIG. 3, it takes time to converge at the start of SOS. Such a convergence problem can be avoided.

[0053]
While controlling the light emitting element LD1 in this way, only the switch SWfb1 is turned on among the 32 sample hold circuits of the APC circuit 600, and the laser light quantity of the light emitting element LD1 corresponds to the APC reference voltage Vref. The voltage at the time of convergence to the value to be accumulated is accumulated in the capacitor Cfb1. Similarly, the APC control is performed on the light emitting elements LD2 to LD32 one by one in order.

FIG. 6 shows a configuration example of a laser scanning system and output of each sensor in laser xerography, which is an aspect of an image forming apparatus including the light emitting element driving device of the present invention. The basic configuration of the laser beam scanning system in the laser xerography apparatus is as follows. The laser light emitted from the
[0059]
As described above, since the individual laser light amounts of the light emitting elements LD1 to LD32 are smaller than those of the end face laser, a plurality of the light emitting elements LD1 to LD32 are simultaneously turned on to scan the SOS sensor. In this case, it is preferable to turn on only a plurality of light emitting elements located in the center portion among the light emitting elements arranged in two dimensions. However, in APC control, the light emitting elements are turned on one by one and the conditions are set (gain of feedback loop). Therefore, if a predetermined number of light emitting elements are turned on at the same time, the feedback loop of APC control will oscillate. There is a possibility that. A resistor R11 is connected in series with the capacitor C1. That is, in the present embodiment, the sample and hold circuit including the capacitor C1 is configured with a low-pass filter.
Thereby, the high frequency noise which generate | occur | produces when switching on / off of switch SW11 can be suppressed. In addition, a capacitor C11 is connected in parallel to this low-pass filter. This can prevent the phase of the negative feedback loop from being delayed due to the time constant of the low-pass filter. Similarly, by connecting a resistor R21 in series with the capacitor C2, a sample and hold circuit including this is constituted by a low-pass filter.
Thereby, the high frequency noise which generate | occur | produces when switching on / off of switch SW8 can be suppressed. As described above, the light emitting element driving device according to the fourth embodiment has the same functions and effects as those of the first to third embodiments. In other words, in an image forming apparatus for xerography using a surface light emitting diode, the laser power necessary for synchronization is obtained so that the laser power of the synchronization signal is lowered and no synchronization failure occurs when the laser is set to a low light amount by light amount control. Therefore, even when a plurality of lasers are turned on to control the laser power to be optimal for synchronization, it is possible to perform stable light amount control as in the case of one beam. As a result, the laser power required for the synchronization can be set stably regardless of the amount of laser light in the image area, so that the number of simultaneously lit beams can be minimized and the position accuracy of the synchronization signal can be kept high.
