Abstract

1433343 Organopolysiloxane compositions IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 June 1974 [13 July 1973] 33448/73 Heading C3T [Also in Division B2] An organopolysiloxane composition suitable for surface treatment comprises 100 p.b.w. of a diorganopolysiloxane, which may or may not contain Si-OH groups, and having a viscosity of not less than 50 cP. at 25‹ C., 1-20 p.b.w. of an organohydrogenpolysiloxane of viscosity not greater than 1000 cP. at 25‹ C. and having at least 3 Si-H groups per molecule, 0À1-15 p.b.w. of an organosilicate or a partial hydrolysate thereof, 1-20 p.b.w. of an organo oximotin compound and 0-10,000 p.b.w. of an inert volatile organic solvent, the amount of solvent being based on 100 p.b.w. of total polysiloxanes. The preferred organo group of the polysiloxanes is the methyl group, and the preferred organohydrogenpolysiloxanes consists of methylhydrogensiloxanyl units and trimethyl silyl end groups. Suitable organosilicates have the formula R 4-n Si(OR<SP>1</SP>) n , where n=3 or 4, R=alkyl, R<SP>1</SP>=alkyl, -CH 2 OR or -(CHR<SP>2</SP>CHR<SP>3</SP>O) m R, where m=1-3, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are hydrogen or alkyl groups. Suitable organo-oximotin compounds have the formula YO(R<SP>4</SP> 2 SnO) p Y, where R<SP>4</SP> is an aryl or alkyl group having not more than 20 carbon atoms, Y is R<SP>5</SP>R<SP>6</SP>C = N-, where R<SP>5</SP> is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group and R<SP>6</SP> is a hydrocarbyl group and p = 1-4. In the examples compositions are prepared from the following ingredients:-diorganopolysiloxanes: a linear OH ended and/or trimethylsilyl-ended dimethylpolysiloxane; organohydrogenpolysiloxanes: a linear trimethylsilyl-ended methylhydrogenpolysiloxane optionally containing (CH 3 ) 2 SiO groups, or (MeHSiO) 4 ; organosilicates: tetraethoxysilane, ethylpolysilicate, tetra - (2 - methoxyethoxy) silane, tetra - (1- methyl - 2 - methoxyethoxy) silane, methyltris- (methoxyethoxy) silane or hexa-(2-methoxyethoxy) disiloxane; organo - oximotin compounds: dibutylbis-(benzaldoximo)tin, dibutylbis - (methylphenylketoximo) tin, tetrabutylbis - (benzaldoximo) distannoxane, tetrabutylbis - (butyraldoximo) distannoxane, among others; and the solvent when used is toluene. The compositions may be coated on to paper, polyethylene-coated paper, polyester film, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, metals, e.g. Al, glass and ceramics, and then cured by heating to form adhesive films. The compositions can also be used to form silicone release papers by coating kraft paper with the silicone composition which is then cured, then coating the cured silicone film with a styrene-butadiene rubberbased adhesive and then applying a label paper to the adhesive surface.
