Abstract

A process is claimed for regenerating/reactivating the MnO2 surface layer of adsorbents (I) used in the removal of Fe and Mn from water, (I) having been produced by chemical surface-treatment of clinoptilolite-contg. zeolitic minerals. - The process, effected at ambient temps., involves: (a) regenerating by treating with 5-10 vol.% of a 0.05-1M HCl soln.: (b) reactivating by treating with 5-10 vol.% of a 10-15 g/dm3 KMnO4 soln.; and (c) washing with Fe- and Mn-free water until neutral.
