[Also in Divisions B4 and B8] A roof bolting machine comprises means for storing and feeding a number of bolts, means for drilling holes in the roof and means for screwing up the bolts. The machine 10, Figs. 1, 1a, 2, comprises a self-propelled carriage 30, including a control console 42, a boom 34 on the end of which is pivoted a bolt-tightening device 56 and a pneumatic percussive drill 54, and a magazine 58 for supplying the bolts to device 56. Boom 34 is pivoted at three points 47 by hydraulic cylinders 48 and 50, and is telescoped by an hydraulic cylinder 52. A bracket 78, Figs. 5, 6, 7, is pivoted about boom 34 at 70 and 76 by hydraulic cylinders 86, 96, and a support 84 carrying drill 54 and bolt setter 56 is pivoted about bracket 78 at 82 by an hydraulic cylinder 114. Drill 54 having a drill rod 128 is driven by a percussive motor 126 guided in a shell 124, the rod being centralized by a device 130, and a drill feed screw is driven by an air motor 132, Fig. 9. Device 56 comprises a shell 134, Figs. 9, 10, secured to support 84, a power wrench 144 advanced along shell 134 by a feed screw 148 rotated by a reversible fluid pressure motor 156 and a chain and sprocket 158, 154, and two vertically spaced roof bolt clamps 164a, 164b. Each of the clamps comprises a pair of fingers 166, Fig. 11, pivoted in brackets 168 secured to shell 134, and bolt gripping rollers 170 or magnets. A fluid pressure cylinder 174 closes the fingers on the bolt, the fingers being spring urged to their open position, and cylinders 174 are actuated by camoperated valves 180 on the shell. Magazine 58, Figs. 14 -16, comprises a frame 194, 196, channels 198 for supporting plates 26 of the bolts 18, Fig. 4, and a shuttle 200 for feeding the bolts up to bolt setter 56. Shuttle 200, Figs. 14-16, comprises spaced upright rods 202, and upper and lower transverse rods 204, and is moved along slide rods 208. Upper and lower movable finger carriers 210, 212 are attached to shuttle 200, upper and lower transversely stationary finger carriers 214, 218 are secured to frame members 194 and bolt retainer rods 224, 226 are adjustably secured to members 194. A number of fingers 234, Fig. 16, are pivoted on carriers 210, 212 and engage pins 238 carried by shiftable rods 240. In operation a number of bolts are stored in the magazine by inserting them from the left of Fig. 16, pivoting fingers 234 so that they are held against rods 226 by the transversely fixed fingers 246. Shuttle 200 is moved to the right, Fig. 14, by a lever 262 thus moving bolts 18 out of fingers 246 by fingers 234 to feed the bolts along the magazine, nut runner 56, Fig. 5, is pivoted by cylinder 114 to move into engagement with the magazine, fingers 166 are actuated to grip the end bolt, and runner 56 is pivoted to enter the bolt in a hole previously drilled by drill 54.
