969,601. Cutting tobacco. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd., G SMITH, L. W. GEE, and H. A. STONE. Oct. 25, 1960 [Sept. 25, 1959], No. 32650/59. Heading A4C. A knife for a tobacco cutting machine has a blade of high resistance to wear, e.g. tungsten carbide, whose cutting edge 31 is an arc to which the faces of the blade are tangential and whose radius is at least one thousandth of an inch. As shown, the tobacco is fed by conveyers 15, 16 which have transverse ribs and converge at their forward ends towards a rectangular mouthpiece 19 whose sides are formed as arcs of a circle. Extending across mouthpiece 19 is a cutter wheel 20 carrying twelve egually spaced knives 23 clamped between the interlocking parts 24, 25 of a holder 26 secured to a flat 27 on a wheel 20. The main portion of the knife is #th inch-thick, the back face adjacent edge 31 is at 5 degrees to the rest of the face and at 30 degrees to the front face 30 and the minimum distance between the ends of the faces is about two thousandths of an inch.
