Abstract

962,444. Filters for liquids. STAMICARBON N.V. April 18, 1961 [April 22, 1960], No. 14050/61. Heading BID. Mixture introduced at 7a, Fig. 1, is fed peripherally to a frusto-conical screen 1 composed of rings 3 secured to strips 4. Filtrate (and undersize, if any) are discharged at 10 whilst oversize and remaining liquid are discharged at 11. Feed-in may be slightly tangential by appopriate disposition of fins 14. Body 12 is vertically adjustable by a hollow rod 15 which may be open to atmosphere or through which air may be withdrawn or inert gas introduced. The screen may be frustoparaboloidal (Fig. 2, not shown). The screen 1 in Fig. 3 is a sphere which may be lowered, turned through 180 degrees about a diameter by handles 24, and raised again, at intervals, to render wear on the screen more uniform. The screen wall material may be perforated plate or a helix of wire. The screen may be cylindrical. In an alternative construction the screen is composed of a tube formed from flat screens numbering three of more, (e.g. eight as illustrated in Fig. 5, not shown); preferably the tranverse cross-secton is then a regular polygon.
