Abstract
953,913. Induction motors. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 16, 1960 [Sept. 7, 1959], No. 30504/59. Heading H2A. A speed change induction motor for driving sugar centrifuges, lifts, and machine tools has a distributed polyphase stator winding divided into eighteen portions of preferably equal angular span and so arranged and connected to two groups of terminals A 1 . . . C 1 and A 2 . . . C 2 alternatively connectible to a 3-phase supply source that they provide four-pole operation when the supply is connected to the second group terminals A 2 &c. and the first group terminals A 1 &c. are connected together to form a parallel star arrangement, and ten-pole operation when the supply is connected to the first group terminals A 1 &c. and the second group terminals A 2 &c. are left unconnected to form a series star arrangement. An auxiliary winding electrically displaced from the main winding may be provided to reduce undesired harmonics, and the rotor may have a single or double squirrel-cage. The Provisional Specification describes other winding arrangements and connections providing other speed ratios.
