Abstract

Aqueous emulsion paints comprise a synthetic resin, pigment particles and particles of finely ground silica gel. The paints may also comprise finely divided calcium silicate or aluminium silicate. Specified synthetic resins are polyvinyl acetate, copolymers of vinyl acetate with other vinyl esters, polyacrylates, polymethacrylates and copolymers of acrylates or methacrylates with vinyl esters. Plasticizers, e.g. dibutyl phthalate may also be present. Examples describe emulsion paints comprising (1) externally plasticised polyvinyl acetate, titanium dioxide, silica gel, cellulose ether, sodium hexametaphosphate and sodium sulphosuccinate, and (2) externally plasticized polyvinyl acetate, titanium dioxide, silica gel, aluminium silicate, cellulose ether, sodium hexametaphosphate and sodium sulphosuccinate.
