Abstract

943,066. Cold and heat retaining vessels. UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION. Jan. 15, 1962 [May 11, 1961], No. 1411/62. Addition to 943,067. Heading F4U. In a double-walled vacuum insulated container for storing materials, e.g. bulls' semen, to be preserved at low temperatures as described in the parent Specification a plug 86 of heat insulating material is fitted inside a cylindrical actuating member 74 within the access opening 16 of the container. Thus the actuating member need not be withdrawn to remove or supply a specimen from or to the container. The tube 74 is spaced from the wall of the opening 16 to define an annular outlet for refrigerant vapour and is integrally formed with a calibrated disc 78 to indicate its degree of rotation relative to a fixed pointer 80. A pin 82 of the conveying apparatus described in the parent Specification is engaged in a slot 84 formed in a lower steel reinforcing ring 76a of the actuating member 74 which is made from thermosetting phenolformaldehyde resin.
