Abstract

A petroleum distillate fuel contains 1 to 30 p.p.m. of a phosphorsulphurized hydrocarbon and 5 to 60 p.p.m. of a chelating agent consisting of: a condensation product of a hydroxyaromatic aldehyde with an alkylene polyamine or with an aminophenol; the tetrammonium salt of ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid; or N,N1-bis (acetyl acetone) ethylene diamine. The hydrocarbon is preferably an olefin or diolefin polymer or copolymer which is heated at 200-600 DEG C. with a phosphorus sulphide. N,N1-disalicylidene 1,2-diamino propane is preferred as the chelating agent. A concentrate of the combined additive can be made in benzene, xylene, toluene, diethylene glycol, pyridine or kerosene. Prior to incorporating the combined additive the fuel may be alkali washed and then water washed.
