932,855. Electrophotography. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. Nov. 17, 1960 [Nov. 18, 1959], No. 39547/60. Class 98 (2). Apparatus for the electrophotographic production of images on light-sensitive semiconductor layers comprises an earthed support adapted to receive a semi-conductor layer, corona discharges electrodes mounted on an endless band or chain movable at a uniform speed above the support, and injector means for injecting an aerosol in the corona discharge field. As shown, a strip c of paper bearing a zinc oxide-in-insulating binder photoconductive coating which has been exposed to light to form a latent conductivity image therein is moved steadily by an earthed roller g beneath a continuous metal chain a bearing corona discharge points d which are staggered across the width of the chain, the chain a being trained over sprocket-wheels b, one of which is driven at constant speed. An aerosol is directed into the corona discharge field by a nozzle e and an extractor nozzle f connected to a suction device is provided, while a diaphragm h of insulating material is disposed between the nozzles and the electrodes d. The speeds of the aerosol stream, roller g and electrodes d are adjusted to give the required deposition on the strip c only when the discharge voltage is applied.
