Abstract

928,316. Fly presses. C. G. GREAVES. March 23, 1962 [March 27, 1961], No. 11040/61. Class 87(2). A fly press comprises a bolster 1 having upstanding therefrom a back frame 2 with a vertical guide 11 and a head 3 above the guide in which is mounted a ram operating screw 4 for vertical adjustment over the bolster, a ram 6 carried at the lower end of the screw and guided in a horizontal block 8 which itself is mounted for vertical adjustment on the guide 11, and a fixing device for securing the block 8 in the guide 11. This fixing device comprises a clamping block 14 with screws 15. The screw 4 has a multi-start thread and a fine thread to screw into respectively the head 3 and a lockable nut 7, the latter limiting the size of the downward stroke of the ram. Transverse bores are provided in the ram 6 and ram guide 8 so that a pin may temporary lock them together to facilitate adjustment of the guide 8 on the V-guide 11. A tool, for example a die, is clamped in the bolster by bolts in T slots 18.
