Abstract

894,500. X - ray examination tables. SIEMENS-REINIGER-WERKE A.G. Aug. 21, 1959 [Aug. 28, 1958], No. 28736/59. Class 98(1). A patient-supporting table for use with radiation apparatus has a length of at least 2.4 metres, and is recessed along at least one of the longer edges at about one-third of the distance along the table. Thus absorption of radiation by the table top is avoided at these recessed portions when the radiation source is below the table. In the form shown, the length of the table is three metres, a section 29 at one end being hinged to the remainder. It is normally supported by a rail 31, which can be retracted to allow the section 29 to be dropped. Two recesses are shown, each having an outer part 37, 38 and an inner part 35, 36. The patient is positioned so that the part to be examined or treated is over one of the recesses. The length of the table is such as to allow considerable latitude in the positioning of the patient along its length. A rack and pinion arrangement under the table provides a small degree of longitudinal adjustment. The recesses can be partly or completely filled by removable segments, as required. When the radiation source is to be used above the table, the entire table top can be covered with a plastic sheet.
