Abstract
817,611. Fluid-blast switches. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 5, 1956 [April 7, 1955], No. 10253/55. Class 38 (5). An oil or other fluid blast switch has a moving contact 11 which is withdrawn through an arcing-chamber 13 and has a shoulder 11a which allows a bridge 23 to move downward so that the movement of a linkage 24... 27 allows the contact assembly 10a, 18, 10, 21 to move upward under the action of a spring 20. When contact is broken arc pressure transmitted through contact 10 to chamber 17 exerts a pressure on the contact assembly at 18 so that the assembly is prevented from moving under heavy current conditions. Under light current conditions the pressure is insufficient to prevent the movement of the assembly and this produces the contact separation characteristic shown in Fig. 2. A valve 19 allows the fluid to enter chamber 17 but ensures that it is driven into the contact chamber 12 when the assembly 10 rises.
