Abstract

798,308. Cigarette-making machines. KÍRBER, K. March 9, 1956 [April 9, 1955], No. 7429/56. Class 130. To promote even tobacco distribution in a continuous-rod machine, a compression tongue having a conical part-tubular portion 12 leading the tobacco rod into the wrapping garniture 10 has a further portion 16 adapted to be locked in operative alignment with the portion 12 and having its central operative surface formed as an endless metal or smooth synthetic material or fabric belt 14 moving in the direction of tobacco feed at a slightly greater speed than that of the paper wrapper web 5 which carries the tobacco rod. The portion 16 has a wear-reducing liner 18 and vertically and longitudinally adjustable inner and outer side members 15, 17 the latter of which normally contact the web 5 to keep its sealing edges free of tobacco particles. An arm 19 controlled by a hand lever 23 supports the portion 16 and pulleys 20, 21 of the belt 14 for pivotal movement about the axis of the belt driving pulley 25 into and out of an operative position in which surfaces 26 on the members 17 lock with recesses in the portion 12 itself rigidly or adjustably mounted on the machine frame.
