Abstract
789,592. Sliver coiling mechanism. TWEEDALES & SMALLEY (1920), Ltd., and WARRINGTON, C. Oct. 26, 1954 [Oct. 26, 1953], No. 29489/53. Class 120(3) A silver coiling mechanism in which the coiling head is transferred from a position above one can to above another has the transfer mechanism driven by reduction gearing associated with the sliver feeding mechanism, the final member in the train of reduction gearing effecting engagement of a clutch member when transfer is necessary. Two sliver cans, 1 are mounted on a base 3 containing the mechanism for transferring the coiler head 11 by partial rotation of a tube 7 that surrounds a shaft 15 driven from calender roller 17. At the lower end of the shaft 15 is fixed a sprocket 23, Fig. 3, connected by a chain 24 to a compound rotatable member including a chain sprocket 25 and a pinion 27 that drives, through a reduction gear train, a worm wheel 57. The compound member is rotatable on a stud 29 that is itself rotatable and to which is keyed a sprocket 33 meshing with a crank gear 35 adapted to swing the coiler head by means of a lever 13 and the tube 7. A clutch, normally held in disengagement by a rod 65, is allowed to engage when a pin 63 on the worm wheel 57 moves a projection 77. In consequence of this engagement, sprocket 33 is rotated and continues to rotate until the clutch is again disengaged by a movement initiated by a projection 75 fixed to the sprocket 33. Specification 730,691 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 680,470.
