Abstract
788,693. Explosives containing T.N.T. AKTIEBOLAGET BOFORS. Feb. 20, 1956 [March 16, 1955], No. 5163/56. Class 9(2) Granulated explosive compositions containing T.N.T. are manufactured by including the portion of T.N.T. that, together with the other components of the explosive has been found empirically to give homogeneous uniform sized, non-sticking granules, in a suspension of the other components in water, while stirring well at a temperature exceeding the melting point of T.N.T., cooling the suspension to below the melting point of T.N.T. to obtain primary granules, and adding the remaining amount of molten T.N.T. to be included in the explosive, to the primary granules in the same or another suspension medium, e.g. ethanol or glycerol, while stirring well at a temperature below the melting point of T.N.T., so that the added T.N.T. forms a coating on the granules. The examples relate to the continuous or batch production of RDX, T.N.T., wax compositions containing 40 per cent T.N.T.
