Abstract

781,276. Casting-machines. STEW ARTS & LLOYDS, Ltd. April 7, 1955 [June 15, 1954], No. 17557/54. Class 83 (1). When casting metal, the stream of metal from the ladle to the mould is enveloped by an unconfined curtain or shroud of inert gas. Inert gas is supplied to an annular orifice 16 in the ladle stopper-box-casting 3 and issues as a truncated conical-curtain 20 about the pouring- jet. When bottom-pouring, the top of each mould may be closed by a cover-plate having a restricted outlet.
