774,117. Discharge-tube gating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and BUCKINGHAM, J. Jan. 11, 1955 [Jan. 21, 1954], No. 1844/54. Class 40(6) In a gating circuit any component of the gating voltage which would otherwise appear in the output is balanced out by feeding to the output a voltage which is derived from the gating voltage and is of opposite phase and equal in amplitude to the voltage it is required to suppress. Fig. 1 shows a gating circuit in which an input signal at 1 is applied via cathode-follower stage 1A to the gating tube 4 which is gated at its control grid by a gating signal applied from input 7 via stage 9. Any components of the gating signal at 7 which may pass to the output 01 via the interelectrode capacity of tube 4 is balanced out by applying the inverse of the gating signal derived from the cathode of tube 9 via balancing network 14, 15 to tube 18 of cathode-coupled tubes 17, 18. Resistor 15 and capacitor 14 are adjusted to balance resistor 11 and stray capacitor 6 respectively. In a modification shown in Fig. 2 two oppositely directed gating tubes 4A and 4B are employed so that gating by either positive or negative-going gating signals may be used. In a further modification shown in Fig. 3 the balancing circuit 14, 15 is taken direct to one of the output terminals; In further modification Fig. 4 (not shown), the gating tube 4 of Fig. 3 is replaced by two oppositely directed gating tubes.
