Abstract

733,049. Oil-break switches. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Oct. 22, 1954 [Oct. 23, 1953], No. 29336/53. Class 38 (5). In a three-pole switchgear unit having all the poles mounted in a common cylindrical casing 1 and separated by two earthed metal barriers 4, each barrier has a convex shape when seen from the other, and the terminals 2 of the pole lying between the two barriers are further apart from each other than the terminals of the other poles. The barriers may form true arcs of a circle, but may have indented portions or strengthening ribs, and may be positioned so that, as nearly as possible, they bisect perpendicularly lines joining adjacent terminals of different poles. The inner surface of the tank and the surfaces of the barriers may be covered with insulation 5.
