732,720. Piston packing. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABREKEN. Sept. 11, 1952 [Sept. 14, 1951], No. 22823/52. Class 122 (1). (Also in Groups XIII and XXVII] Wooden piston rings are employed in a hot gas reciprocating engine or a, refrigerator or heat pump operating on the reversed hot gas reciprocating engine principle (see Groups XIII and XXVII). Fig. 2 is a detail view showing, a split wooden piston ring 22 backed by a rubber ring 24. The rubber ring may be of circular or rectangular section. In Fig. 3 a wooden ring 30 is backed by an expander spring 31 and rubber sealing rings 35, 36 are utilized. The wooden ring may be made up of superimposed layers and the grain of the wood in adjacent layers may extend in different directions. Fig. 5 shows a subdivided wooden ring having portions 40, 41, 42 urged outwardly by springs 44, 45, 46 respectively. The wood may be compressed. The term " wood " includes a product made mainly from wood or wood fibres. A ring of elastic material may be provided behind or to seal the side of each wooden ring.
