Abstract
723,906. Centrifugal pumps. SUNDSTRAND MACHINE TOOL CO. March 5, 1952 [March 23, 1951], No. 5748/52. Class 110 (1). [Also in Groups XXVIII, XXIX and XXXIV] The inlet 70 (not shown) of a rotating-cylinder swash-plate pump or motor (see Group XXIX) opens into an annular recess 24, Fig. 1, which is eccentric, Fig. 2, to the axis of the drive-shaft 77 of the main pump. A plurality of inlet passages 72 are provided in the end plate 23 and open from the recess 24 in the part furthest removed from the drive-shaft 77; they feed into an arcuate intake port 74 formed in an intake port plate 75 fixed in the main pump casing 10. A multi-blade backward-pitched centrifugal impeller 76 is rotated by the driveshaft 77 to provide pressurized fluid to the main inlet passages during high-speed low-inletpressure operations. The liquid is directed by the centrifugal action into the recess 24; highspeed rotary motion in this recess is prevented by a pin 78.
