670,506. Pressure gauges; indicating- apparatus. MUNRO, Ltd., R. W., WILSON, J. F. G., PEARCH, R. E., and PIPER, W. J. Feb. 27, 1950 [Jan. 28, 1949], No. 2440/49. Classes 106 (ii) and 106 (iv). An air-speed indicator comprises at least one capsule in operative connection with the static and pitot heads and transmission means, between the capsule and a pointer, capable at all points of its movement of accurate adjustment in order to produce a uniform scale. Capsules 14, 15, one of which is sensitive to small pressure changes, are mounted with the indicating mechanism in a frame supported by a spring stirrup 5 which is secured to the casing 1 solely by a bolt 6 through which passes the pipe 4 leading to the pitot head. A pipe 3 connects the interior of the casing with the static head. The capsules operate an arm 18 fast on a shaft 21 also carrying a counterweight 27 and an arm 29. Screws 30 in the arm 29 are individually adjustable to form a cam surface of such a shape as to produce a uniform scale. The screws are locked by a wire threaded round them. An arm 39 on a shaft 31 provided with a counter-weight 38 is urged against the surface formed by the screws by a hair spring 49 in the indicating mechanism with which a toothed quadrant 42 fast on the shaft 31 gears. The indicating mechanism comprises coaxial pointers 55, 58 geared together in the ratio 10 : 1 and moving over the same circular scale. Different metals may be used for the arms of the transmission mechanism in known manner to provide temperature compensation. Specification 535,542 is referred to.
