[Class 60] An appliance for finishing ground surfaces of rotation comprises a substantially ring-shaped body which encircles the work and comprises two arcuate sections which are hinged together and are capable of be-. ing opened out in the plane of the body about the hinge, said arcuate sections carrying a plurality of separate members, one at least of which is an abrasive member, which project inwardly of said ring- shaped body and bear against a surface of rotation of the work at points widely spaced around the circumference thereof, at least one of said members being capable of radial adjustment relatively to the arcuate section by which it is carried to vary the depth of cut The body of the appliance comprises an outer frame 10 composed of a pair of C-shaped, annular, coaxially-spaced discs 11 within which is mounted, for rotational adjustment therein, an inner frame 14 consisting of a pair of spaced annular discs 15 each comprising a main section 17 and a lockable hinged section 18 arranged so as to open the gap of the C-shaped outer frame 10 to allow insertion of the workpiece. The main section 17 carries an abrasive element 24 while the hinged section 18 carries two guide elements 25 which latter may, if desired, be replaced by abrasive elements. A pin 26 carried by the' abrasive element 24 engages a cam slot in the outer frame 10 so that on relative rotation of the inner and outer frames, by means of screw mechanism 30, the element 24 is moved radially to or from the work. According to. the Provisional Specification a combination of adjusting screw and flexible steel straps may cause the relative rotation of the inner and outer frames.
