Abstract

614,442. Centrifugal pumps. REID, R. A. S April 18, 1946, No. 12037. [Class 110 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] An electrically-driven pump comprises an induction motor and pump adapted to be mounted in a tank 4, the motor 7 being arranged vertically above the pump 1 and a communication 17 between the pump 1 and the motor 7 is arranged to flood the motor while pumping is taking place. Provision is made to prevent the liquid from returning to the pump when the motor is stopped and the liquid is retained in the motor casing so that the lubrication and cooling of the motor is independent of the level of liquid in the tank and is effective for a period if the motor is kept running after the tank is empty and the pump dry.
