Abstract

Mixed o, m and p-cresols are obtained by the vapour phase catalytic methylation by methylating agents such as methyl alcohol or methyl ether of phenol at atmospheric pressure and in the presence of alumina maintained at 300-350 DEG C. as catalyst, preferably about 345 DEG C. A detailed example is given.
