Abstract

592,544. Telephone instruments. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. May 14, 1945, No. 12063. Convention date, July 29, 1944. Addition to 560,586. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVI] The parent Specification describes transducer capsules whose electrodes are brought out to connectors having sharp prongs which, when the transmitter or receiver cap is screwed down, pierce a " tip-less " cord to make connection with stranded conductors therein leading to the substation circuit. The present invention provides means to adapt an ordinary capsule for connection with such a " tip-less " cord. The cup-shaped adaptor 11 recessed to carry the pronged conductors 15, 16, is positioned over the back of the transmitter capsule 3 by a key-way 12 which registers with a ridge on the capsule. The screws 18, 19 securing the adaptor 11 to the capsule serve also to establish connection between the electrodes 22, 23 of the capsule to the pronged conductors 15, 16 and their enlarged heads 20, 21 fit into recesses in the lower portion of the casing thereby positioning the capsule assembly. When the cap 24 is screwed on, pressure on the capsule causes the adaptor 11 to force the prongs of the conductors 15, 16 into the wires contained in the " tip-less " cord 6 which is positioned in a channel running the length of the band-set by a longitudinal ridge which fits into a corresponding groove in the channel. A similar adaptor for a receiver capsule is described.
