Abstract

545,222. Multiple-way valve. PARKER, A. L. Dec. 10, 1940, No. 17494. Convention date, Dec. 13, 1939. [Class 135] A manually-actuated multiple way valve adapted to connect a single outlet to either of two inlets has a pair of valve members carried by a rocker arm pivotally mounted in a casing and actuated by a hand lever acting through a spring tumbler mechanism. In the form shown in Fig. 1 each valve member 37 comprises a conical facing 43 mounted on a short spindle 41 with a head 42. The upper part has a pair of flanges separated by a cylindrical part adapted to engage open-ended slots 36 in the rocker-arm 31. This arm has side flanges 32 with holes adapted to receive a pivot pin 34 located in recesses formed by lugs on the base of the casing and is guided in its movements by ribs 17 on the casing engaging the slots 36. The actuating lever 24 has a spherical fulcrum 25 housed in a packed cavity in a cover plate 18 and a similar cavity in an inner plate 20. The pointed inner end of the lever engages a conical recess in an intermediate actuating member 45 having flanges 48 adapted to engage alternately with the upper surface of the rocker and a slotted tubular part 46 passed through an aperture in the rocker and engaging the pin 34. A locating spring bearing in the pin 34 is housed in the tubular part and urges the member to one side or the other to provide a snap-action. Modifications are described in which the ends of the rocker are bent upwards or formed with a tapered recess so that when the respective valve is closed this part of the rocker lies in a plane at right angles to the axis of the valve seat.
